Eco Driving Mode

Featured Replies

Hi.

is it possible to set the mode on start up to Eco instead of D?

Subject to the model, engine and packs you should be able to do this. However I'm still learning myself

No you have to select it every time. It reverts to drive on each new first startup

You do realise you can achieve similar or better economy leaving it in drive and it’s a much better driving experience.

Many thanks.

I didn’t know this. It begs the question, what’s the point of the eco mode then?

Btw, I’ve got a 1.5 TSI DRG. Had it six months, done about 3000 miles and am very pleased with it.

Might as well ask why the driver gets any options to use different functions and enable and disable anything.  AC auto, Stop/start, autohold, auto lights and wipers, S rather than D.

It works better in standardised economy tests than on actual roads.

The other weird thing is that when restarting despite D showing on the dash the centre screen will show Eco. Go figure?

In that case does it not mean ECO mode is still selected meaning that stop/start is activated, LED headlights are in eco mode, air con is in eco mode, but drive mode is normal.

VAG cars used to remember the driving mode that was last used, but when the fuel and emission tests were tightened up the cars were tested in their Drive mode. And this was then made the default mode whenever the engine was started... (perhaps to stop owners complaining that their car couldn't match the quoted figures as they always left their cars in Sport mode??)

Interestingly I saw that WhatCar recently reported on how well cars met their advertised MPG figures, and the Skoda Karoq 1.5TSI was more economical than expected! True MPG: which cars beat their official figures – and which are farthest away? | What Car?

An interesting read but how does the same 1.5tsi  engine perform below official figures in the two Audi and better in the Karoq??

To me that says they should be subjecting a number of individual vehicles of the same model to see what result variation is realised.
