smokey new member

Featured Replies

hi, new member here, bought a vrs fabia about 3 weeks ago, have approx 1100 on the clock, but apparently there is quite a lot of smoke coming from the exhaust (fella in a leon tdi and another one in a ibiza gti told me, after i'd passed them!)

is the smoke normal, and will it settle down once the cars run in a bit, could it be because i've been driving enthusiastically??, or would you lot say this is the best way to run in a vrs???

cheers sirs

how much is alot?

at what revs? Is it standard or modded?

Typically you'll get a big cloud of soot when you boot the car, but it should tail off as you get further up the rev range. If it's happening all the time (and the car is standard) it indicates you're not getting enough air in the cylinder which may point to a faulty MAF sensor.

Of my last 3 diesels, only my Disco smoked and that was down to the fuelling being wounded up quite enthusiastically

the car is completely standard, and appears to be running fine and smoothly in any gear - is there any other indicators that this MAF sensor could have an issue?

a couple of fellas in my work have said it may just be because it is a new car - any ideas??

Welcome to Briskoda. :D When was your car first registered and does it have the balance of the 3 year Skoda UK warranty?

I would say normal, mine does it too, particularly in warm weather and with cheapo supermarket fuel, both of which it is suffering at the moment!

yes!!

it was 1st registered last month so should have a bir of warrenty left on her!!

it has been quite warm over here today and it is running on asdas finest!, so no real worries then??

If in doubt pop it in to your local dealer. It will smoke more if you've been giving it some beans in the warmer weather as the SMIC will warm up fairly quickly.

Try running on shell as I've found it makes it smoke less and (around my way) it's cheaper than the supermarkets stuff.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm - Much fun, I say. Boot it when you have a petrolhead in his beemer behind, and watch him reach (or is that retch!) for his recirculate button, all too late.

By which time, you've gone!

Oh, such fun!

Try Shell diesel Extra, no more than the standard Diesel but I find it's better then the other fuels, such as the supermarket ones.

They are all to the same BS number but it just seems better, don't know if anybody else notices?

YEp but they stopped selling Derv extra and now charge extra for VPower derv which they don't stock anyway.
