The workshop manuals are available on here. You want pages 211 to 213 of the 'General body repairs, exterior' manual. And a good hairdryer, by the look of it!

Yes we really do, out of curiosity if nothing else and you should name and shame the dealer if the cost is off the wall.

For a main dealer that does't seem too expensive, especially in your neck of the woods, but they certainly don't sound a friendly bunch and I'd certainly be looking take it to a reputable local bodyshop, or one of the driveway merchants you mention.

I have a similar dilemma as you regarding service as I've only done 1100miles since last July. Someone asked Honest John if they should have their oil change done as they'd only done 1000 miles and the answer was "get it done because the oil is still a year old". Mine will be the third service + MOT, so I'm going to get it done at the dealer because any faults that could show up in the MOT will hopefully get fixed under warranty before it runs out and I'll get that 3rd service stamp in the virtual service book. It will make a difference when I come to sell the car, but if I keep it for a while, I'll get future services done at reputable independent.

Regarding the air con, I'd leave well alone if it's working okay. If you've used it on a regular basis, then it should be fine. My air con is always on which keeps the seals lubricated.

sorry dude i am yet to do this task as i have been unwell and recovering from knee surgery, seems fairly straight forward.... famous last words, however next door had a mobile mechanic visit  to quote a job and he said it was simply unclip clean and attach new, warned some of the poppers may brake so a trip to auto part store could be needed, warned to be sure to put on with side clip first as per the diag, pics will follow.... says with right trim popper being cautious with paint etc its a ten min job.... 2hs  the dealer quoted......
