Roomster newbie

Featured Replies

Hiya peeps, hope all is well

So a quick intro, I have just purchased my 1st skoda. A base model roomster,  1.2 tsi  and I'm looking for advice and recommendations to get the most out of my wee beastie...

I'm looking for simple upgrades & mods,  to pimp my ride... I luv the look of the monte carlo styling too, and aim to transform it into a day van primarily...

All recommendations & advice greatly recieved folks

Hi M, whats it like in Scotland at the moment.

Welcome, what colour is the car?

Hiya NZ100

I hear it is lovely up in scotland at the mo, I am down south these days ...

My car is black with no A/Con ... its a base model

Hi M, i had a Roomster for 11years, went a little OTT, uprated springs and shocks, leather seats etc.

I always think wheels can make a big difference to car, but dont know how far you want to go with things.

A couple of simple things are, wind deflectors, and window blinds, they would look good on a black car. So just some things to start with.

I have a set of original, unused textile mats and a pair of rear door window blinds available. Send me a message if you're interested.

As for the car, it doesn't matter the spec, they are one of the most practical vehicles. Get those back seats folded up or even taken out and you've got a van. A few on here have turned them into campers so definitely check out their threads if you haven't already for ideas.  Hope you find your's as useful as many others have.

Hiya HMR,

Thanks for getting in touch. Really appreciate the offer but I am looking to get some hard wearing rubber mats, plus getting the windows tinted.

So the Rooster had its maiden voyage yesterday, not too far, just wanted to see what she was capable of and see if there was any unwanted noises or rattles, or anything else to be worrying about.Currently happy with the oomph from the little 1. 2 tsi engine so far and no major issues thankfully.

Going to be doing a full service.

We are getting the windows tinted next month.

Ideally some new tyres , my dad bought some nice black alloys when he first purchased the car. So currently on 195/55/15 .

Luv the fact it's so versatile. We have a dog so it's just us & the dog 90% of the time,  but glad we can have more room to play with and make the most of the space the Rooster offers. We enjoy going on adventures and plan on being able to use our car as a day van when we fancy it. Our toyota Aygo was fab but very restricting and our dear old Rav 4 Valerie was getting on a bit and not cost effective. So I am looking to do a reasonable amount of mods , nothing too pricey as I don't have the funds to chuck money at it  at present ( Just had a very poorly doggy!! So have just settled a huge vet bill ) So simple effective upgrades & mods for the time being. Then see where we go from there.

It was my dad's old car, he has had a few skodas over the years, a couple of fabia estates, a VRS fabia  , this roomster and he has just upgraded to a newer roomster scout. So it was perfect timing , plus I got a good deal!!!

Hello again, cheers for the advice, did you have the 1.9 tdi Roomster???

What uprated springs & shocks did you go for???

What was the benefits you found, by changing them???

Yeah Wind deflectors on my to do list as well as a set of new tyres,  any recommendations??? Is it worth changing to 16's ??? Currently on 15's and they look a little lost in the wheel arches tbh... What leather seats did you go for/ which make & model...

Any things to look out for??? Any dont's???

Cheers Miss Roomster

Hi MissRooster and a belated welcome to Briskoda.

I've had two Roomsters: a Scout 1.9tdi (16" wheels) and an SE 1.2tsi DSG (15" wheels).  The Scout was my all-time favourite car in 50 years of motoring.  I found an immense difference in noise, harshness and quality of ride between 15" & 16" wheels.  If I had kept the Scout, I would have sourced a set of 15" wheels for it after the warranty expired.  As it was, I was forced to part-ex the Scout (manual gearbox) for a DSG due to the return of an old knee injury.

Enjoy yours :)

Cheers Robjon,

Thanks for the warm welcome and the heads up ref 15" vs 16".

My folks are loving their new Scout version Roomster.

Sorry to hear you had to change vehicle due to an old injury :crying:

I luv discovering new places to go visit in and around England & like to mix motorway and B roads so the journey is varied.

So the right tyres will be important.

Hi M, yes i had a 1.9tdi Scout.

I suppose you have to ask yourself what you want out of the car, and how much your prepared to go.

Hi Nz

Yes, you are so right, it's what I was thinking... I need to be realistic, in terms of budget at the moment, and doing what needs to be done for now , & know its a work in progress... cheers again..

All the things i did was over an 11year period. 🙄

We bought our Roomster 6 months old (now nearly 10 years old), only modification we did was get the high level boot floor kit (so our 2 dogs at the time could jump in and boot floor was level with lip).

Still got the original boot floor (only used for 6 months) in garage, free to anyone who needs a replacement

Also since moving to Wiltshire changed headlamp bulbs to Osram nightbreaker, as discovered headlights weak (didn’t notice in London where every road is lit).

Kept the 15 inch wheels, but now have all season tyres (there are some big hills in Wiltshire and nearer Bath) and skidding or having to pussyfoot around because of frost or snow is uncool

Hi @SurreyJohn May I please ask how many miles your Roomster has covered, and whether the DSG has given any problems during that time?  Many thanks.

44k miles

The DSG caused a problem after 2.5 years (I think it was one of the batch with wrong oil), had a new dual clutch assembly under warranty.  Has been fine since.  Just checked it is 9 years old, it is a 2012 built car

DQ200 DSG's 2009-2012 (late Summer) were part of the World Wide Recall which was just a Service Campaign in Europe started early 2014 and the Synthetic Oil was changed to Mineral and a software update was done. '34F7'

Late 2012 DQ200's were not part of any Campaign as they should have been turned out with Mineral Oil & the Software Update.  Sadly they have been going wrong in a good few cases.

2013-2015 were part of a Service Campaign started in 2017 on some to do a Software Update, not all were flagged as needing that.  Another co-ck/up from VW group.  '34H5'.
