Will VAG match Toyota

Featured Replies

What are the chances of Skoda and others matching the new Toyota Relax 10 year warranty?

Makes a Toyota look a very good prospect for long term ownership.

Unlikely with Skoda / VW Group as they never matched the Toyota 5 year warranty unless you bought a 2 year extension, or were maybe in Australia or some Global Area not in Europe.

The issue is 'If everything was as reliable as a VW, what a terrible world it would be'.

They do not even match the 5 Warranty the other Czech car manufacturer has.

VW Group would need to sort out the Dealership Servicing so that Employees & the Customers know about the Manufacturers Recommendations on Servicing as in periods / miles-km for Cam Belts, Water Pumps, Brake Fluid, DSG, Haldex, VAQ etc, and maybe clean or replace screens or filters.

Well it has, sort of, but only up to 8 years (warranty) iirc.

Toyota standard warranty is being reduced from 5 years to 3 years. The 10 yr you refer to is if you have your Toyota serviced and maintained to their requirements at a Toyota dealer whereby you get an automatic additional warranty extension upon completion of the official toyota service/maintenance. If you go to an independent you don't get any warranty.

VAG including Skoda have introduced a similar slightly more complex equivalent. If you commit to a 2 year "all in" service package and have the recommended maintenance done by a dealer, you will get an additional 2 year warranty and free breakdown cover.

As usual the devils in the small print. Eligibility, exclusions, does not cover this, that etc etc and all faults must be repaired and recommended maintenance carried out..... Read the small print carefully...

All carefully designed to keep dealers in work and extract the cash.......

Whilst the Toyota Relax scheme seems a good idea especially for Toyota`s servicing departments and they must have faith in their products, I know they make reliable cars, they are just plain ugly in my eyes, and I cannot get excited about them.

Those that were attracted to Mk4 Octavia's probably think they are still an exciting car to have owned or still own as they wave them goodbye having rejected them or visited around the back of a dealership where the sit for weeks waiting on Skoda coming up with the promised Updates to Software or hardware.

The boring cars that go on and on for a long time are often still Toyota's.   They can have their issues but then the Senior Management @ Toyota are made to fess up.
