Service interval - 6 years and only 30,000 miles - advice please

Featured Replies

My  2015 Yeti 2.0l Diesel is due a service.  Can anyone tell me what the garage should be doing on this service before I commit myself because in the past the local garage has been either too lazy or didn't want me to know what was done on the service.

It depends on what servicing has been done in the past, it should have had a cam belt with water pump last year.
If a 4x4 the Haldex will need a service including removing the pump to clean the filter screen.

It's the 2 wheel drive 2.0L TDI SE Euro 6 engine.

Do you have a Service Record of anything other than Oil & Filter changes?

Has it had the brake fluid changed at 3 year and 5 years or anytime in the past 6 years.

Same with the Fuel Filter, Air Filter or Pollen Filters, have they been changed anytime / anytime recently.

"The local garage has been either too lazy or didn't want me to know what was done on the service".

On the basis of that if it was my car even with only 30,000 miles on the clock I'd be looking for a better garage and then paying for "the works" and know I'd done all I reasonably could to prevent future problems. If money's a bit tight I might skip or delay the various filter changes and air con service but if I had any doubt whether it had been done before or not I'd definitely have the brake fluid changed - it could be fine for another year but why risk it?

Personally if i did not know if Brake Fluid had been changed i would have it checked for the H20 content.  At a Service the Tech or Mechanic can check it with a tester.

I would not just change it for the sake of it.

(Actually i have a tester to check myself.)

That service pricing chart is really useful.

Last service that was done they billed me for brake fluid change.  I asked them how often that should be done and they said every 3 years.  I then asked them why were they billing me as it should have been done at the 3 year service, then they removed the charge.  If they actually did anything then it should be OK until next year but I will get it tested.  As you can tell I do not trust them much so will be looking at an alternative dealer for servicing

Thanks for the advice re cam belt and water pump, guess I'd better break open the piggy bank

1st brake fluid change at 3 years then every 2 years after that.

Alan555,
You need to find a better garage!!
If you stated where your location is a member here might be able to suggest somewhere.
