Rear Camera Installation

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can send me link to a wireless rear camera for my Skoda Fabia mk2.

How difficult is it to install? Any reference or YouTube link will be much appreciated.

There is a thread on this site about fitting a camera to a mk2 Fabia but not  a wireless model as it seems if you want to use the head unit you have to use a Sat Nav unit and a wired connection to get it working correctly, if you cannot find it enter a google search rear camera mk2 Fabia have a look and see if you want to still go ahead

Are you looking to fit a dashcam or a reversing camera?

As much as I do like gadgets..............a reverse cam on a small hatchback.........

Many thanks for your reply. I believe RNS310 will fit into MK2 and then I can wire it to reverse cam.

Depends where we park, doesn't it. We have 4 cars in our household and need to park in really tight space on our driveway. Literally bumper to bumper.

Fairenough...................... would parking sensors not be a cheaper / easier option ?

I suppose it really depends on what "headunit" you have in the car.

What year / spec is your Fabia ?

It's 63 plate, 1.2 tsi elegance. Good suggestions parking sensors should be enough but I thought it's more difficult to install sensors than camera as I have to drill on my bumpers.

Yes you would have to drill, but I think the inner surface of the bumper is marked for the locations of the sensors................ and it is only plastic so pretty simple to do (as long as you can use a drill offcourse)

the parking system is pretty much a self contained install, to get the camera working you need a new headunit / screen etc as well as camera install.

Genuine parking accessory kit here as example.......(NOTE :- audio only NO visual on Radio as with Factory fitted kits)

and "same" kit / seller on Ebay

regarding rear camera, you would need a "kit" like this..........

+ Camera that fits Fabia and then a Headunit like

Many thanks and much appreciated. I think I'll go with parking sensors as you suggested.

Do I have to take the bumpers off or can I install with the bumper on?

It all depends how OE you want it to look, and how much effort and money you want to spend, but on my previous car (which didn’t have satnav) I bought a cheapie Chinese 7” satnav which came with a wireless reversing camera.  IIRC it was around £35 on eBay, and did the job.  I made a pod for it and mounted it atop the dashboard, all wiring hidden, and a rocker switch to turn off the power.  OK, there was a dummy speaker grille which I utilised!

That's a pretty decent job. I don't think I'll be able get my head around to do what you did.

Watched some videos and parking sensors seem doable by me.

You can get parking sensors that don't need any drilling into the bumper. I have seen them before they fit around the number plate ( think it's a bracket ) and the wire goes in through the boot.i think it connects to the cigarette lighter

Sorry don't know how to post a link. There are couple on Amazon

Just so you are aware, the wiring and buzzer are all in the rear, are wired to the rear reversing light and have no connection to the head unit so sound eminates from the luggage area. I fitted them without removing the bumper on any of the vehicles using the wire coat hanger trick to hook wiring and positioned based on photos of the position of factory fit - Auto Trader etc. Removing the bumper would allow identifying of the factory positioning moulded into the inside face. There is a rubber flap on my 2008 Mk2 in the return edge under the tailgate, inside the luggage area, which I fed the wires through. Not seen any feedback yet in reply to Parking Sensors - Skoda Fabia Mk II - BRISKODA where I also suggested these.
