MkII diesel 2009 model rear differential oil change

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am New here, can someone tell me what type and brand of diff oil shall I use for my 2009 mk2 superb 4x4 rear diff?

And what is the exact quantity please?

Thanks your help in advance

To @Attis1974 - I recommend only "OEM"-Oil for differential. You need one bottle for rear differential. Did you change other oils?

Do you have any basis for saying that?

Oil spec is VWG0521445 a 75/90 synthetic gear oil, refill quantity measured during 2 refills on my own vehicle is 1.1 litres.

I have used semi synthetic 75/90 this time as I could only get 75/80 in synthetic over here.

To @J.R. - I own few different "Skoda" Cars from about 15 Years and from about this time I read regularly few different "Skoda"-Forums and my recommendations are consequence of all information that I read and remember :)

Thank you J.R., thats what i have been told by many of my mechanic friends.

To @Attis1974 - OK :) There are few other oils that is good to be changed under the Car. Be careful with "Skoda"-Dealers. They often told that some of this oils do not need to be changed which is not the best for the Car.

2011 Superb MK2 4x4 with haldex 4. Rear differential oil change. Oil spec from VW group is G 052 145, 75w85 GL-5 fully synthetic.  But this oil is thinner than 75w90 and it is due to mpg VW specifies 76w85 gl-5 instead of 75w90 gl-5?

I have had several VW/Audi diesel 4x4/torsen cars and all rear diffs have had 75w85 gl-5 specs (some diffenrences when it comes to OE partnr). But I also notice that most users and also workshops actually use fully synthetic 75w90 GL-5 in rear diffs on VAG cars.

Anyone used G 055 911 (75w90, GL-5) instead of G 052 145 (75w85, GL-5) in their rear diff and noticed any "hiccups"?

What is the VIN?

I have checked OE partsnumber catalogue; www.partslink24.com. But feel free to check: TMBLE73T2B9051897

The original diff oil is G 052 145 which is listed as e.g. Febi Bilstein, partnr 48785. 75w-85 GL-5 OEN G052 145 and G 055190, G 052 190

But, from different workshops, mechaincs etc, one can also use 75w-90 GL-5 fully synthetic as well. Will be heavier, but also better lubrication under hard use.

You have done all I would do and get G 052 145 S2 (1 litre) from PL24. Putting that into Tec Doc lists Febi 32590   API GL3 SAE 75W-90 / API GL3 SAE 85W-90 / API GL-4 / API GL-5 / Castrol MTF 97309 / Ford WSD-M2C200-C / MTF 0063 / SAE 75W-90 (GL-5) / Subaru Extra MT / Subaru Gear Oil Extra MT / VW 501 50 or Febi 48785 API GL-5 / API GL5 SAE 75W-85 / BMW G2 / BMW Hypoid Axle Oil G1 / FIAT 9.55550-DA3 / MB 235.7 / MB 235.74 / MB 239.71 / MB 239.72 / ZF TE-ML 18 and directly into the Bilstein  Group Web Shop list the same.

Long answer, what I could interpret, 75w-85 and 75w-90 both GL5, meaning they can be used as rear diff oil.

Ohh I often give longer answers than that! I would interpret it means both are satisfactory.

Yup, long answers are good. I actually did a search myself at Febi. So, I figured it out. Both will do and both are within specs. I do believe that 75w-85 is just for MPG economics and 75w-90 is for better endurance... 🙂 Will use 75w-90 GL-5 on both diffs from now on. Downloaded Erwin updated manual as well, so now it is just do start reading and doing.
