can the stream head unit be removed and replaced with an aftermarket din sized unit of better quality? is there an adaptor involved? does it look ok?

many thanks for your quick reply and sorry for wasting your time but new to site and thought i was the only one that would be considering this change of HU. you know the usual how silly ha ha anyway again many thanks. Great to know thats its a skoda part so finish should be as it was intended. so basically its just a simple procedure removing stream unit , plugging in new lead, then slotting in adaptor and finally fitting stereo

Dont worry about wasting the time. There are a few pics of the conversion somewhere on here. Quite a few non gen headunits in the Octavia 2 now.

With the Skoda kit it should be plug and play.

btw there is a flash update for the stream to sort cutting out etc.

thanks very much i posted another q regarding the plastic that surrounds the seat bases would you be able to tell me how to remove this without doing the usual amount of damage i do to everything else ( bull in china shop )

The Big Mac on here changed his out. He might be able to give you some tips, he got someone to do it. Nice piece of kit.

I have sent mgpd a PM about the HU , i am having problems putting pics of my new HU up on site , if you (Gaff) still have the ones i sent you , feel free to post them CHEERS!!!

ColinD was kind enough to change my username (big thanks to him) The HU i used is a pioneer AVH-P7500DVD i changed all the door speakers to MTX THS652 components with crossovers MTX TH895 5 channel amp for dolby digital DTS for bass i used a 15 '' MTX4515 sledgehammer and cables, connections and power cap are all Streetwise it was fitted by the lads in The communication People Thurles Co Tipperary they specialise in fitting MTX equipment , im very happy with the sound CHEERS!!!

Wow what agreat head unit!

What is it and how much? is the tuner builtin?

My very simple Octy 2 boot install consisting of an Alpine amp and 10" Kenwood sub....

The amp is nicely out of the way and pivots down fine when putting the seat flat. The sub box is very small and takes up hardly any space.

My Kenwood double DIN ICE / satnav install.....

You'll have to excuse the rubbish picture. All looks a bit scruffy with my finger prints :) . Looks a lot nicer in the flesh.

How easy is it to get cables to the boot?

Oh , and where did you power the amp from?

The live power cable comes through a small hole drilled and the siliconed in the bulkhead. There is an existing gromet you can come through if you can find it though.

The cable then drops down behind the glove box and then runs under the plastic trim on the left hand side of the car and then out at the left hand side of the passenger seat squab.

I guess it's about as much of a hassle as any any modern car. Somebody else did this install for me but honestly, if I could go back, I'd do it myself.

The HU is the pioneer AVH P7500DVD it has tuner ,cd ,mp3 ,dolby digital dts dvd ,tv etc all built into the one unit it has a hideaway box that fits under the seat it costs around 2500 euros its super ,as they say you get what you pay for !CHEERS!!!

many thanks pics shown span my two options very well din or double din that is the question ? ive always liked the idea of the dub-din but havnt had enough space and i have it now but the bucket load however i am a pioneer lover so.......

we will wait and see again thanks

The essential feature for me is bluetooth hands free , and I don't think that anyone makes a double-din bluetooth HU.

You want the brand new Kenwood DDX-6029. Looks gorgeous, way nicer design than mine, .45" bigger screen AND bluetooth! Only

btw there is a flash update for the stream to sort cutting out etc.

Except it made no significant difference to my radio when it was applied. If anything performance was slightly worse.

altering the settings in "mode" on mine has stopped all the drop-outs and "coughing" through the speakers.
