Replaced car battery - lots of settings deleted?

Featured Replies

I replaced my cat battery, and afterwards a lot of electrical settings were changed, like

  • coupe light does not turnon when key is removed anymore
  • blinking light on mirrors do not blink anymore
  • central locking from the key does not lock, except for the fuel door
  • +++

Later I learnt that I havent followed the procedure for this job, but the local Skoda dealers workshop does not understand how these symptoms could occur.

Could anyone suggest a solution, or anyone have seen these symptoms before?

Not seen what you have but do know I had to take mine for a very short drive (200m) to get a load of dashboards light to turn off.

Never had any warning lamps, and have been driving for weeks now.

I saw something similar, if not exactly what you have (so that casts a rather unfavourable light on your Skoda dealer, if they know nothing of it, because something similar must happen to many people).

- locking defaults changed; car locked when you moved off, so you were locked in 'till you pulled the key out; I really didn't like this.

I had a look round the 'settings' in the menu, and played around with several settings, and now I've got a car that opens up on the remote (previously, only the driver's door opened).

Unfortunately, I can't tell you in any detail which setting did what, but I poked around and set things where I guessed they ought to be, and the result was generally positive (the names of settings. are generally a bit obscure, and don't help as much as they could.)

It sounds like its memory got corrupted during the swap.

Try:

1. Disconnect the negative battery lead (with ignition off).

2. Turn ignition on.

3. Activate headlights flash, horn and hazard lights to drain any residual charge in the system.

4. Wait 1 minute then deactivate anything you switched on.

5. With the ignition still switched on reconnect the battery negative lead in one swift action, don't faff and create sparks as you fumble to reconnect.

6. Switch ignition on and check if any change.

My car locks when pull off ((over 10mph I think) but I just have to pull the door handle twice to open it, once seems to unlock and 2nd time to open, obviously I'm stopped but key still in ignition.
