New Octy is coming

Featured Replies

Hello to the Octavia part of the forum!

My nephew is about to buy his first car and we found a '01 1.6L. It has the SR engine. It's a very high mileage car but well maintained and it runs very well. My nephew was in a hurry so we grabbed this car at a very good price (due to mileage). He will drive it mostly on highways with speed limits 90 - 130km/h. So, no hard use, I guess.

Are there any points we must take care of or be careful, except for the usual inspection a used car needs?

How is the oil consumption of these engines?

Thank you!

Cambelt, unless there is an invoice for belt kit plus water pump in the last 80_000 km. The reason for changing the water pump is that its life is about 1.5x the cambelt change interval, and you need a new belt (2 to 3 hours) when you change the water pump (15 minutes if the belt is off anyway).

The car has full history record. Also, the previous owner has kept all the invoices and receipts from day one!!! The cam belt has been replaced about 40k km ago.

The car has 340,000 km! On the same engine and without any major repairs. The gearbox has been replaced due to noisy bearings.

No reservations other than the noted point about the water pump.

Thank you!!!

check the doors for any sign of heavy wear in the cable routes and water getting in anywhere. easy enough fixes, but still, be aware enough to look for it

Today I had a chatting with a mechanic. He said that the SR engines are prone to block cracking. The Octy we bought has the AVU engine. Is this engine type suffering from such a failure?

From the absence of replies I guess it's not a common problem... At least I hope so!
