Ignition Live in the Boot?

Featured Replies

Hi,

i'm wanting to fit a rear facing dashcam and was going to plug it in the 12v socket in the boot but just realised this is a permanent live so I'm not able to use it.

Does anyone know if there is an ignition live at the rear end of the car anywhere I can tap into please?

Thanks

Aren't some dashcams motion activated?

No idea, but my rear one is just a normal Nextbase one that automatically records once power is detected i.e when I switch on the ignition hence the need for an ignition live rather than permanent live.

hmmm, anyone else's on an ignition live? Mine is definitely permanent live, same as the one in the front console

This question has been asked before a few times. The solution is to run a wire from a spare ignition live fuse location (or use a piggy back on an existing fuse) in the end of dashboard fuse box then up the A pillar.  Then follow the other wires at the edge of the roof (or over the headlining) and then again follow the other wires down the rear quarter panel to a suitable point near your camera.  I guess you could also find a suitable floor route.

The rear socket is permanently live on later model and has a larger current rating. Others have a switched live supply and lower rating. Just depends on your model.

A local garage that has just done it's annual service today thought there might be a small fuse board in the rear of the car somewhere - anyone know of this?

I've never seen one of these on any of my VAG cars though so i'm doubtful this exists?

Why don't you run the cable as suggested?

It's so easy even I managed to do it

Your right, there isn't one.
