as usual it didnt do it out side the shop so i really don't know now i'll try moving the earth again to the boot catch i getting pi55ed off with this

any more thoughts anyone

when you between the fuse and 12v cable you mean from the battery to the fuseholder ?

At the fuseholder itself. there was an intermittant connection between the fuse holder and the cable itself.

I think the problem may be with the pre-outs.

Some amps just can't handle anything over more than about 2.5V. If the pre-out level is selectable, try backing it off to a lower setting.

If you can't do that, can you run the system from another h/u or bodge some cables so you can run off an MP3 player or walkman etc. as a test?

Other than that, try checking all of the connections between the battery and the amp. Especially the hex screws on the fuse holder etc. They do seem to like coming loose... or looser than ideal over time.

If you've got a voltmeter, check the voltage across the amps +/- terminals and monitor it when you turn it up.
