Air intake location tdi 190?

Featured Replies

Seeing recent flooding & pooling of water reminds me it’s a good idea to know how high up your air intake is, esp on tdi versions where given the high compression water intake would end in catastrophic failure.
Tried a quick peek under the bonnet & very difficult to see below the top surface.
Hoping the intake is fairly high up but confirmation of the location would be much appreciated!

Did try a search for prev posts but no results.

not sure how different it would b with the TDi, but with the TSi, the air intake is behind the grille, above the radiator.

Air intake is on the left (of the car), between bonnet handle (in the center of the front grill) and the left headlight.

Then it goes to the air filter housing, which is in front of the battery.

Fresh air flows from the bottom face of the filter housing through the filter upwards. But no worry, the air filter housing has a large grill in its lower face to let water drop to avoid wet filter.

Many thanks both. Reassuring that it’s so high up … have no intention of  entering deep water!

Recall years ago carwise barely  surviving sudden extended downpours & deep water sections trying to get back to Exeter in my then B4 Passat from Bristol via rural back roads when both the M5 & A38 were  impassable.,
