Thoughts on this car?

Featured Replies

Saw this for sale on market place and seems tempting for a project where I could learn work on it. Is this going to be a car with endless problems? Seems like trevorb has looked after it.

If that's the ASZ it's an awesome engine.

Subject to a good look over, test drive etc I'd have no issue buying that.

Yeah id like to get a second car for tinkering/ something to drive for fun on the weekend and this seems ideal.

I pretty much bought mine sight unseen. Saw it advertised and picked it up. 😂 I took a gamble as it had the extra spec I wanted.

I have the PD130 ASZ, it’s completely standard, apart from some cement from the previous owners lol.

Here’s my project. I wouldn’t say it’s been neglected, but it clearly needed an overhaul and I’m still working my way through it.

Looks like your had been coming along nicely, has it been fairly easy to work on?

Yeah, a learning curve as I’ve always worked on the 1.8T. Some stuff as been easier to do though.

I found the ASZ much easier to work on than the AUQ in the vrs.

Seemed a lot less complicated..

The (much) better mpg was easier to live with too.

And those black 17" spiders make me want a set

Hi guys, thanks for interest.....but i sold the car a couple of weeks ago and should have deleted ad......

However, i would say that this model is a good project starting point. I previously owned a stock 1.9 tdi Ambiente and wanted to upgrade.

So starting with a PD130 (ASZ) engined L+K was a good base to make a vRS version with a diesel engine, something Skoda never made in the MK1.

I had to wait a while for the right one to be available....it had to be the black interior and not the far more common "puppy dog poo" tan version !!

I think i pretty much achieved it with the mods i made, the Bilstein shocks and rear anti rolll bar fitment making the biggest difference.

Good luck finding another one !!

I'm glad its found a new home. I don't think I was going to be able to buy it anyway so it worked out but I still loved what you did to it.
