Steering wheel controls- audio side not working

Hello 

I’m a newbie. I’ve had a search and can’t find anyone with this problem on a yeti: just got a yeti outdoor (2014) last week. The left hand side of the steering wheel controls don’t work, ie those relating to volume changing audio sources etc and the wheel (whatever that

does). Works ok on the right hand side. Kicking myself for not working this out when I first looked at it but there was a lot to take in.  

 

I’m booked in to get it looked at by the dealer I got it from in 

9 days time (plus it’s an hour’s drive away) so if anyone knows any tricks to troubleshoot this that I could try before then I’d welcome them.  Thanks a lot. 
oh the system is a kenwood DNX518VDABS.  

Not a standard fitted unit, maybe someone will be along who can help!

If it was working it's probably a failed clockspring.

Ah you mean it wasn’t part of it originally? Did confuse me that I couldn’t find DAB on the outdoor SE spec

I don’t know if it was as it’s new to me. Fingers crossed they can fix it for me.

Is that with a Skoda dealership or an independant, don't think Skoda will be interested as not original equipment!

 

Seems like this was an OEM extra, probably cost a fortune too !

I would imagine this is either a physical fault (wiring, or clockspring attachment is a club fingered DIY has been attempted), or the coding for this unit has been lost.

First job, and one that doesn't require any dismantling) is to get a VCDS scan for faults, and to check what coding is in situ.

No it’s not, it’s a second hand independent chain (car shop)

Ah thanks. Am I right in thinking there’s a list somewhere of how to find someone local to me who can kindly do a scan?

It’s the first time I’ve had DAB in a car too,wonder how much previous owner spent on it …

I’m happy with it but it would be much smoother to operate if I could do it from the steering wheel like I used to on my 2007 Nissan!

Have a look at the VCDS pages, or get a cable of your own - beware, there are thousands of chinese copies about, expect to pay about £230 for a genuine Ross-Tech cable.
