Part covered in soot

Hi all,

I’m new to the forum and need a little help if possible. I have a mk3 octavia, 2.0 tdi and have noticed soot covering the part circled in the photo attached. Can anyone tell me what the part is?

From its location I would say that it is the insulation covering the DPF

Soot in that area indicates you have either a EGR or Exhaust leak...

2019 2.0 TDI timing belt interval

Hi, sorry if this topic has been posted a number of times, but I have a query about timing belt intervals on a 2019 Octavia estate SE L TDI 150 AUTO. It has just been in for its MOT and service, and I also asked them to have a look at the timing belt. I'm sure I read somewhere that the interval was 100k miles, and as mine has now done 91k, it would need doing in the not too distant future. However, although they gave me a quote (£750 for timing belt and water pump), they told me the interval is

Does anyone get a massive flat spot occasionally, whitin a few hundred yards of setting off in electric only mode? This only happens now and again and is very noticeable when it happens.
