Hi.

 

Any thoughts on dealer versus independent for regular maintenance and servicing? I suppose for fault finding, it's best to go main dealer as they have all the latest diagnostics and recalls. But for run of the mill stuff?

 

If independent, any recommendations within striking distance of north London?

Best find a good independent with all the gear and more than just ideas & ridiculous prices.

 

You get ones with licensed equipment, trained VW Group Techs & Master Techs that have had enough of VW Group Main Dealers.

They will have the TPI's / Recall notices, and do the Oil Change of your DSG and do the Haldex Properly and not like a Main Dealership might. 

 

@ 6 years old any recalls you might get should be on the VIN checker or the Government Recall Site.  Recalls are where a Keeper is contacted, 

Recall Actions like with Skoda is where you might never be told even if a Main Dealership Services your car.

@e-Roottoot Thanks. Now to find a good independent, and that's the real minefield, whereas main dealers are like McDonalds - they may be crap but at least you know what you're getting! Any recommendations for north London?

Not a clue but someone is likely to know.

If nobody here does why not ask a Private hire Car or Delivery driver in a Skoda or VW if you see one about.

I don't know where you are in North London, but you have Trans City autos in Walthamstow. Its one of the last of the pre vw skoda dealers still around, so it's a main dealer. I'm not sure about any independents in that area though.

Walthamstow isn't too far, but if mason dealer, the same costs as local Citygate, who are ok.
