Has my infotainment broken or just been reset?

Featured Replies

Hi there, very strange thing just happened and I was hoping someone had come across something similar before.

I've had my 2015 Superb Executive 4x4 for nearly a year now and so far everything has worked perfectly. Then out of nowhere this week my phone wasn't connecting to bluetooth. Pressing the "phone" button on the infotainment gives a message "telephone not available" with no way to access the bluetooth settings etc.

So I plug it into the USB for SmartLink and that's not working now either! The message is "You can activate this function by means of an activation key. Contact your dealer"

Same with SatNav, this time the message is "The navigation data in the infotainment system is not valid. Please check data".

Weird thing is, other aspects haven't been reset. My radio stations are all still set as I left them, the electronic seat profiles still adjust as before.

So I thought I should check the SD card, see if it's dislodged or something. There is no SD card in either slot (I've never had reason to check it before, so I don't know if it's never been there or if perhaps someone's nicked it.

My question is: if someone had taken the card, would that account for everything losing connection or would it just affect the SatNav? If not, what could cause such an issue and what are the chances of me being able to resolve it without shelling out hundreds of pounds?

Tearing my hair out, any help at all would be gratefully received.

I've had exactly this plus ACC error after dealer had fixed something. Took it back and they sorted.

Thanks Nick (I'm Nick H too coincidentally!).

I've emailed Skoda too, I'll see what they say about it.

Ahhh !! So it's your fault I keep getting those dodgy emails !!! 😆

I had this problem. Basically the infotainment system can operate at different levels of functionality according to what was paid for when the car was new. Some markets eg the hire companies, don’t want satnav (so they can charge you for a carried-on one), or countries where everything is an optional extra. To control what works and what doesn’t, there is an area of memory that hold a security code. This can get wiped when there is a glitch on the infotainment software, which is what I had. The car was still under warranty and, after a bit of fuss, the dealer restored it for free. Just a matter of plugging in the computer and connecting to a big brain in Skoda HQ to check what was authorised in the car when new.

The satnav doesn’t need the card in to work, the card is just for loading new map data which is then held in internal memory.

I have had exactly the same problem as Outeh and bizarrely I have the same car and the problem arose around September 2021.

Is there any chance that the activation key is time limited?

I was just about to send MIB2 unit to PAB567 in Poland but am now keen to hear if Skoda have come up with any help.

Why are you sending your unit across the seas for an issue that is software related and can be sorted by anyone with ODIS who can redo the FeC/SWaP codes for the 5F module.

It appeared to be a hardware issue as no readable files on Jukebox and unable to restore maps.  I have since been able to load music to the Jukebox, but still no bluetooth or cable connection for phone and no SatNav. Then I saw this thread an was hoping for some input. Thank you. I'll reach out and see if there is anyone near me who could do this.

I had the same situation with my Skoda Superb 2016, out of the blue all paid features stopped working (SmarkLink, Bluetooth, Navigation). Dealer said to wait one month for an appointment. Reset didn't help, neither installing latest software. So I had to install M.I.B. toolbox and patch the unit to restore the functionality. Here is the instruction on how to do that (this is my personal blog): [Fixed] VW Connect, Seat Full Link, Skoda SmartLink, CarPlay, Android Auto Activation
