Intermittent reversing camera fault

Featured Replies

Occasionally my reversing Camera fails to activate when reverse gear is selected. At other times it switches off part way through the manoeuvre. My local dealer cannot reproduce the fault (it appears to be totally random) and simply suggests I live with it until it becomes a hard fault - not what I consider a reasonable idea. Any thoughts?

(Karoq Edition 2021 model 1.5 petrol automatic)

I’m afraid dealers will always revert to the ‘we can’t replicate the problem’ whenever they can.

I always take video evidence if at all possible, this is less easy to ignore.

It's not the 'can't replicate' I object to - I can't replicate it on demand either. It's the fact that there seems to be no escalation procedure to see if any other of the thousands of Karoq in the world have had the same problem.

I noticed same thing started happening these past few days on my nearly 2 year old sportline

reversing camera does not activate sometimes or it cuts off other times

might be cause I connected my smartphone to USB before starting the car - meaning, you have to wait for android auto to startup fully and then go into reverse for the camera to be activated? dunno, will have to do some more testing

That's certainly not the cause in my case - I never connect my phone via USB. I also find the problem occurs at any time, even after running for long distances, e.g. 100 miles+.

Awaiting response from Skoda.

Thanks. Good to know YNWA...!

I've referred the problem to Skoda's Customer Service department who claim to be looking into it, but no solution yet. Suggest you do the same.

Latest: dealer wants the car for a few days to try to reproduce the fault. OK by me, but the specialist they want to do the testing isn't available until the last week in November. Don't hold your breath...

I am new to the forum: I have the identical issue with my March 2021 Karoq Sportline. The main issue for me is that I have to reverse off my drive past the end of a neighbours drive that is screened off with conifers so when the camera shuts off mid-manoeuvre I am totally blind to my neighbour possibly coming off their drive at the same time - scary ! The car has been back to the supplying Main Dealer twice most recently the week before last and I have also been in touch with Skoda UK. When the garage gave it back to me most recently they were confident that "hopefully" ! the fault was cured. They say they carried out a software update to rectify this problem, plus the wider problems with the infotainment system including the dreaded SOS Error: Emergency Call Please Visit Workshop also the Nav and Carplay freaking out and/or freezing on a regular basis. Unfortunately all these problems have occurred again since I have had the car back so I need to contact the Dealer again.

Fortunately I don't have any of the other problems mentioned, although I do have another little quirk: from time to time TSR (traffic sign recognition) displays speed limits in kph rather than mph. Another seemingly random problem, but it can be a bit of a shock when the limit is shown as 110!!

Latest from the dealer: Skoda have supplied a software fix for the TSR problem and have instructed the dealer to fit a new reversing camera. This is on back order, so goodness knows when it will arrive. Hoping to get my car back tomorrow, so we'll see if the software fix works...

And some months later...

The software update has fixed the TSR problem.

The camera has been replaced. I still have the occasional problem but it's much better than before, so I guess I'll live with it.
