I've read some topics and I guess I'll have to go for a drive in sportmode without stops. My car is Octavian vRS 2011.

 

My questions:

 

Do I need to have longer trips without stopping the engine? Having several shorter trips in a day does nothing?

 

Is it a Skoda thing or every car has this problem?

 

 

 

If most of my trips are short, only way to keep my car happy is to drive a longer route? How often do I need to take those longer drives?

OP has a petrol car.

Don't go driving about more than you might need to and wasting fuel just because the car is a TDI.

 

You do not need to drive in Sport mode.

If you find your are starting to have issues with the DPF then you might need to be doing longer trips.

How many miles the car has done now over 10 years might well make a difference.

 

Skodas have VW Group engines so the DPF's are across several makes of cars and the DPF's are in diesels since 2009 so much of a sameness over all manufacturers as how diesel cars and DPF's might behave.

I actually have a petrol 2.0 147kw engine, googling dash signs gave "diesel filter", my bad.

 

Car has done a little under 100k miles

Good.

So your car is built 8 years before 'Gasoline Particular Filters' were introduced to Skoda's. 

Only a few threads on members having regen issues with them so far.

So what you're suggesting for me to do?

Just take a longer trip to work and back?

No. we're suggesting that you find out what the problem actually is. It clearly can't be an exhaust particulate filter since you don't have one.

You could start by editting your first post to actually say what problem you believe you have and what you want to achieve, we are not clairvoyants on here.

Can't seem to edit, but yeah my bad for a low effort post, it happened I kinda rushed it.

 

My car is Octavia vRS 2.0 147kW with CCZ petrol engine.

 

I was just driving and that was engine light popped up, quick Google shower it's Diesel particulate filter, I assumed it's kinda same on the petrol, somekind of a filter, threads stated that you simply need to drive, just in case I wanted to ask if it's the same problem in my case.

That light just means 'emissions systems fault' I think.  No DPF or anything like it to worry about on your car; so seek out the nearest VCDS-owning member who might scan your car for what the light means in your case, or take to a garage for diagnostics.

Yeah, I'd suspect an issue with the catalytic converter, but all I know is "emissions light on". Which means there are (or should be) one or more fault codes.

As has been said it's a general warning lamp for a fault affecting the vehicle emissions, the good news is that it will almost certainly be a generic OBDII fault code that all manufacturers have to use and will be readable with a cheap fault code reader in the first instance, VCDS will give you precise information but a cheap OBDII reader will probably list what sensor etc is faulty or producing an out of spec output.

Basically a couple of days ago it disappeared, I did nothing except for adding a little oil(Car signaled it was low) and later on the same day I refilled, right after, turned it on and all the warning lights gone(low fuel/emissions one)

Noted as a cheap, fast and at worst does no harm check for an emissions light.
