Connecting Karoq to Xperia XA2 phone for Android Auto

Featured Replies

Hi

has anyone managed to do this?

Just got new car, and have tried to connect my XPERIA XA2 (Android 9, android auto app installed OK) using the supplied Skoda cable ( USB C - USB-C).

The phone connects OK over Bluetooth, and works for calls etc, but no luck so far getting Android Auto to work. Android Auto doesn't appear as an option in the setting screen (only the Apple app appears).

Do I need to enable it somehow on the car? or could it be a cable issue?

Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like you need a software update to activate Android Auto if it isn't even showing up in your menu. Might be worth a call to the dealer.

I've never even looked at mine to see if I have it, I always just use Bluetooth.

thanks for the quick answer. Are you running Android Auto over Bluetooth, or not using it?

It's mentioned when I press the i button, along with mirror cast (which doesn't work either).

I only wanted it so I can run Waze on the infotainment screen as my navigator.

When I plug the phone in it charges, but neither end notifies a new connection.

Anyway, I've ordered a new, hopefully good quality, cable, and will update when I've tried it.

There might be your answer!

Have you enabled a data connection when charging on your phone?

Certainly on my Xperia phones whenever I connect with the cable it always came up asking me if I wanted to just charge/transfer files etc but only if I activated the screen when I plugged it in. If I just plugged it in and left it, the phone would just charge.

On my most recent Xperias (X Compact and now 10 III), the only notification I get to ask what I want to do with my connection is the little usb symbol up in the top left corner of the screen. And if you don't get any notification you should be able to alter your settings (Device Connections). There is settings in there for usb and Android Auto.

I usually just stream music over Bluetooth, I've never bothered to set up Android Auto. So I might well not be able to use it either!😄

There should be a setting somewhere on any phone that can automatically set the connection mode without doing it at each plug in. AA was set up so long ago that I can’t remember what was asked but I’d certainly try installing it to see if you’re missing something.

Hi

thanks for the ideas.

The Xperia connects OK to my PC for file backup, viewing photos etc etc . I get a notification on the phone where I have to enable file transfer. USB appears in the Device connection area, and I have to enable File transfer every time. With the Karoq the USB option does not appear, and there is only Bluetooth in this area.

I have tried enabling developer mode, and searched "USB" in the Settings - and then enabled everything I can enable (most grayed out), but no joy.

New cable should be here today - I am using the Skoda supplied adaptor cable at the moment, as that is the only USB-C to USB-C that I have.

The wife's iPhone just connected and worked from the off, no apps to download or anything.

Good job I kept the old vent clip phone holder...

Great news! Glad you got it sorted.

My Karoq still has the big USB sockets so I just use my charging lead. Hopefully it can connect no bother. I really would need to go and try it.😏
