Over fuelling running lean black smoke out exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi I've recently bought a mk1 skoda ovtavia  vrs on a 03 plate it's been messed around with by previous owner n249 bypass and all that rubbish I'm suffering with the car over fueling so on cold start it's miss firing on choke and popping and I've got black smoke coming out of exhaust on tick over when warmed up can't see nothing when driving and boosting in mirror its got a straight through pipe onit but this is more than you would normally get from that  I've hooked a boost gauge up and it seems to hold its boost so not assuming boost leak?I've changed the temp sensor as I've been told this can cause either and it threw that up on computer didn't seem to do anything it's driving me nuts so guys any useful info would be much help thanks

Black smoke from a turbo is usually rich running.

I had a code throw up the temp sensor I changed it for a febi one but hasn't changed how it runs or black smoke it doesn't smoke on boost though if a turbo was knackered wouldn't it smoke constantly

Hi, welcome to Briskoda.

Something is causing your management system to richen up to compensate for your issue.

When you did a code scan did you do any live data logging or was it just a hand held code scanner?.

Initial places to viually check are the "Y" breather pipe by the cambox, also the breather pipes under the manifold for splits.

What sort of condition is the mass air flow sensor in. have you tried running with it unplugged to see if matters improve?

Having a new sensor does not necessarily guarantee it is fully working, as this forum is littered with non OEM sensor changes that have failled very quickly.

A quick scan on engine vs dash display tenps should confirm or condemn the sensor.

I see you mention someone has had a play in the engine bay, are the breather hoses still present or has a catchcan been fitted.

A quick VCDS scan and data log could save you an awful lot of time and changing of the wrong bits here.

Just my 2p worth,

Hope it helps,

Phil.
