Getting the damn belt off? Bracket in the way?!? 1.4 vRS

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

So im trying to replace my serpentine belt (alternator belt, whatever its called), and I cannot get it out, the very top pully near the supercharger belt has a metal bracket that is in the way, like its right up close to the pully and the belt cannot be removed from it. I have attached pictures, and I cannot find any other topics about getting this belt off!

Thanks,

Nic

not done one of these on this car as yet, but just checked manual, no mention of any brackets etc to remove.

Basically loosen tensioner then remove the belt.

Thats just a mounting bracket, pops off by undoing those 2 spline bolts.  If you detention the top tensioner with a open ended spanner that belt should just pop straight off.

Can I ask why your replacing this belt, usually the 2 belts are replaced as part of a failing water pump.

Ah thanks mate. I had another go today and managed to replace the belt no problem, just had to slip the belt through a narrow corridor between the bracket and the pulley. Those bolts holding the bracket are in a very tricky spot.

I’m only replacing the belt as a preventative measure, the belt has just under 200,000km on it so I figured I better swap it out, water pump is fine haha. Belt still looked perfectly fine though
