Electric Window Problem

Featured Replies

Hi.Help needed please with a 2007 Skoda Fabia mk 2. Recently had problems with passenger and drivers windows not working and/working intermittently. So far had drivers wiring loom replaced, window motor/regulator replaced and drivers window switch replaced (all in the last few days). No lights showing in window switches.Drivers side switch not operating passenger window but passenger window switch works. Drivers side window switch still only operating drivers window intermittently........ Any ideas on what the problem might be/what else should I check?

I'd be grateful for any help 🙂

Where did the replacement motor come from and was it an exact part number match? Do you still have the original?

Replacement came from a Polo. The motor was tested and working during fitting. The drivers side part of the switch was working but not for the passenger side. Window worked for 2hrs then didn't.

Unfortunately 2nd-hand ones are unlikely to be any more reliable than the original. Testing them to be sure of full (and continuing) function is not straightforward.

No longer have the original. The mechanic does I think.

Get it back if you possibly can, I can mend it for you (see signature below).

Did the 2nd hand Polo one come with any sort of warranty?

I'll try to get original back. 2nd hand Polo part came from Eco parts which is 1 of my local scrappies. No warranties.

One of the biggest issues with this problem seems to start from the door to car connection  in the pillar area, sometimes the pins inside of the VW plugs get corrosion on them or get slightly pushed back into the socket part of the connection causing bad earth's and so forth, to get at them to give them a good look at  and clean you need to remove the door stay so the door will open up much further than normal  but remember to support each side of the door with say 2 plastic bins covered with cloth to stop the door going to wide or slamming on your fingers or get a helping hand from someone to hold the door in this position for you also you need to release the rubber cover over the plug and remember to also release the black clip that locks the two connections together then they will then  unplug

A VW spade connector tool might be handy to use as with my door plug just one of the wires were corroded and we had window opening issues for many months garage could not find it but did it myself as got fed up with them telling me nothing was showing up and its working ok when we tried it oh and when i put it back together i used a silicone waterproof grease on the connections and hey presto no more issues and both windows and  switch lights worked from drivers door again

Thanks. All the pins and connectors were cleaned and checked when the brand new original Skoda part wiring loom from the frame to the door was fitted.

Murdockman. Sorry I forgot to add that I'll get the connectors in the car frame double checked.🙂

Quick update...

Fuses checked and replaced. Pins checked and cleaned. Wiring loom replaced. Window regulator/motor replaced. Window switch replaced... Still have intermittent problem. Windows work 1 minute but not the next ☹️ Is there anything else I should be checking for? Could it be a problem with Convenience Control Unit module?

HELP PLEASE ITS DRIVING ME NUTS

Was fuse 11 one of the ones checked?

  • Author

No. Just fuse 51 and 52 I think (the two for the windows. What is fuse 11 for?

I'll check in a minute, but from memory it's an ignition 12V feed that wakes up the drivers side module.

  • Author

Thanks. I thought 11 was a 5v for adjusting outside rearview mirrors 🤔 but my mirrors aren't electric.

Oops I meant 5Amp

It's as I thought. Would also be a feed to the mirror heaters if fitted.

Feeds 12V to pin 2 of the 6-way connector at drivers window module.

That's brilliant.Thank you. I'll get that checked tomorrow and update again 🙂
