Air recirculating flap malfunction

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I am facing the following strange problem with the air recirculating flap motor:

Duting the last 2 months I have noticed that the aforementioned flap is not moving (either open or close). Today I removed the motor to check if it is working OK and I found out that it is OK. I put it back in place and retested it again with success. As soon as I assembled the glove box, the flap motor stopped working again. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? FYI the back of the glove box does not touch the motor. Moreover, not any cables touch it.

With the motor disconnected can you move the flap easily by hand?

I had a similar problem on an earlier car where the mechanism between the motor and the flap could jam, I had to remove some moulding flashes on the plastic parts of the mechanism to stop it jamming.

Dear PetrolDave,

I did not try to move the flap by hand. Moreover, the axis of the motor could not be moved by hand. I also opened the motor and inspected the gears. I did not see any worn teeth.

The problem i had was not in the motor/servo but in the two levers that connected the motor to the flap.

The joint where those levers should swivel freely had rough sections left over from being moulded which would sometimes cause them to jam - so the motor moved freely  (using VCDS output test not by hand, the gear ratio makes the effort required very large) when disconnected from them and the flap could be moved freely by hand - so for me the problem was clearly in the mechanism, and solving that saved the cost of a new motor!

Thanks a lot for the info. In any case, next week I will visit my Skoda engineer and I will revert with the findings when finished.

Hello everybody. As promised, I return with my feedback after yesterday's visit to my engineer:

The motor of the air recirculation flag was burnt due to resistance in the movement of the flap imposed by some loose cables of the OEM multimedia screen that I installed 1 year ago...

Unfortunately, it is a common practice when a technician performs a job not to pay attention if all workspace is clean and tidy after the completion of the job....
