Yes, but registrations aren't sales, are they? Look at the number of new car sales currently on; the discounts are only applicable if the car is registered by a given date, by the new owner.

And cars registered on the road are not necessarily the ones doing the miles.

RAC reports than EVs are doing more miles per car than ICE cars.

Just talking to my Renault Dacia Sales guy and he is telling me that they are struggling to get enough 5s for customers such is the demand and even ordering now might mean the car next year.

So many new EV models on the way, updates for 5 and Scenic as well as Sandero EV version although Dacia still planning to do a petrol version. Diesel long gone i gather.

VWs future looks to gang on the ID2 variants and whilst the Polo looks good and not bad spec the Raval and Epiq look better and better value. Looks like a dire situation for VW in Germany as these ID2 variants are Spanish made I gather. Polo, Fabia, Ibiza production ending.

There is clearly only one direction for the dominant power train for all vehicles. As Yazoo said, the only way is up.

Just how do the RAC arrive at that fact? I wonder, when there are more ICE (a mix of pure ICE and hybrids and PHEVs), the latter are highly unlikely to be plugged in compared to the pure electric ones being registered. Do you have anything to back up that interesting snippet?

Regarding the Renault 5, I'm not at all surprised by what your dealer told you. That car has been widely accepted as a car worthy of consideration. One thing for certain is that if it was also available in ICE-drive variants, then the availability issue would be far worse than it currently is.

Older report from the RAC... https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/electric-vehicles-news/what-range-anxiety-ev-drivers-rack-up-more-miles-than-those-using-tradition/

But newer one using Solera CAP data, 1.8M sample size from last year.. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/366358/evs-are-officially-covering-more-miles-ice-cars

EVs do over 5% more miles on average.

Negative electricity rate in the middle of today. Sunday looking good to for zeroish rates.

Interesting fact, Henry Winkler did not ride motorcycles, also Daniel Craig has only got an automatic car licence !!

Thanks for this, but that claim is misleading and so full of contradictions that you cannot realistically believe a single word of it.

This extract alone is a pretty good example of the poor quality of the article.

"While the EVs’ gains reflect rapidly improving technology, the greater availability of charge points and increased availability of electric models - in 2015 the EV options were primarily small cars - the company also points out that the mileage driven by petrol cars has been falling since the pandemic. In fact the average annual petrol mileage is down 12 per cent over the decade, which among other things Cap hpi attributes to more home working reducing the need for commutes, and the rise of online shopping, meaning cars are left on the drive more often."
So are they seriously suggesting that working from home only applies to workers who have a fossil fuel-burning car? Come on, get real and stop grabbing at any headlines that seem to support your love of EVs as proof that ICE cars are falling from grace.

Let's examine what we all know to be true: the vast majority of EVs (by EVs I mean BEVs) are, in fact, purchased as company cars, and these will fall into two broad groups: 1 - those that need a car to do their job and 2 - those that have a company car either as a perk or a sign of their rank and position with a company. In other words, company directors and senior management, or those who have used a salary sacrifice scheme.

Those in group 1 will be doing miles in their car on behalf of the company and will have replaced fossil-burning cars in that capacity. Those in the second group will likely be those who can work from home, and that would apply to EV and ICE owners/drivers alike, not as the RAC seems to suggest ICE only.

SMMT data....

FB_IMG_1788523020390.jpg

Those SMMT figures are highly selective as they reflect figures over the last month, just as loads are preregistered. The actual growth is only 9.8% over same period year to date over last year's, which failed to hit the required targets.

Interesting to note that petrol is down 3.5% and diesel registrations are up 4%.

So it would appear that the dealer misinformed lol-lol then. I just accepted that he was right🙄

I tend to concentrate on the numbers rather than the text. Comments are deductions and not hard facts like the numbers of the 1.8M sample stating EVs drove 444 miles more than ICE on average.

The good point is that driving miles were down thru Covid and have remained lower since the Covid outbreak. One also hears, supported by numbers who are visiting camp sites, towing and not towing, were down and the cost of driving to them due to petrol and diesel prices was a major factor being mentioned. If one has chosen an EV camper, ID Buzz, PV5 and now the PV7 coming out next week, this may not be anything like the issues with cost for putting in the go-go juice being so different EV to ICE.

Could be wrong and doing a disservice but there are a bunch of dealers who say that can get you a car, take your deposit and only fulfill the order weeks or months later. This might be one of those case as I gather they are clustered together in a certain part of the UK !

See my comment above. One might seriously regret putting one's deposit down.

38% of customers on Trust Pilot only give this dealer 1 star..... https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.cars2.co.uk?stars=1

Where I live and travel in Scotland from Aberdeen to Dundee to Perth Glasgow or Edinburgh and further north and south there is a total lack of Renault 5 EV,s parked or being driven. I see more Alpines than Renault 5,s . There are Renault dealership's around

Only 1 R5 in the Midlands that I can see. Being a Baggy i fear for my life going to Dingle Berry land !

Pretty confident if you wanted 2 they would move one.😉

Dozens nearly new, demonstrators advertised in the UK. Just in Scotland new in stock, Parks, John Clarks, Arnold Clarks, Vertu etc etc.

Toomys in Basildon say that you can have a choice of 5 R5s in approx 2 weeks, or 33 R4s in anything from 2 to 5 weeks time, so maybe lol-lol's dealer was thinking of the R4?

I am interested in the upgrades and more so the cheapest of them. Wish Renault brought the "Five" version, was 95 hp, now 107 hp and now FLP which is what I was expecting my 40 /43 kwh version to be.. Should be well under £20k with the EV grant. Not sure Twingo will sell that well. Sandero EV should though.

https://media.renault.com/the-renault-5-e-tech-electric-range-gains-fresh-appeal-with-greater-efficiency-range-and-versatility-right-from-entry-level-along-with-new-colours-and-features/?lang=eng

Increased range for existing versions

Renault 5 E-Tech electric is now even more versatile. Both battery options – the 40 kWh Urban Range and the 52 kWh Comfort Range – gain increased range through aerodynamic enhancements (lower body and new rearview mirrors) and optimised battery electronics. The 40 kWh Urban Range battery, available with the Evolution and Techno versions and paired with a 90 kW (120 hp) motor, now achieves an WLTP range of up to 315 km, compared with 312 km previously. While the 52 kWh Comfort Range battery, available with the Evolution, Techno, Iconic Cinq and Roland-Garros versions and paired with a 110 kW (150 hp) motor, now achieves a WLTP range of up to 430 km, compared with 410 km previously .

An optimised Five version

Still available in the 95 hp / 40 kWh configuration, the current entry-level Five model is set to become more powerful, more efficient and more versatile in just a few weeks. It is set to swap its current powertrain for a new, compact, lightweight 80 kW/110 hp motor, from the same family as Twingo E-Tech electric. It will be powered by a 36.5 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery with cell-to-pack technology, designed to optimise energy density in relation to its size and weight. The result is a WLTP range of up to 305 km, with no compromise on performance since the 0–50 km/h sprint takes just 3.5 seconds, for a responsive and enjoyable driving experience. And for even greater versatility, alongside the 6.6 kW AC onboard charger, the new Five level trim of Renault 5 E-Tech electric will ship as standard with an 80 kW DC charger, allowing it to use fast-charging points.

No definitely the R5. I had hopes for the R4 but back seats just as restrictive as R5, boots is good but just not as good a looker as the 5 IMO. Discounts on R4 and availability better accordingly.

Agree with the looks, as does everyone else it seems.
