COLD Start 1.4 petrol 80PS

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just joined the site and just purchased a 2008 Octavia 1.4 petrol engine code BUD. With the recent cold weather i am noticing that it is hard to start from cold. Once hot, it will run and start all day. When i manage to get it started on a cold morning the high idle works fine  until the car heats up. There are no lights on the dash and i have replaced the coolant temp sensor with no joy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Deep load test on the battery, check the exterior temperature sensor reads sensible values for Dublin.

Hi Ken,

Yes the temperature sensor matches the temperature reading for my area on my phone. Could the battery be an issue? Plenty of power on startup.

Yes. Not sure about Ireland, but in the UK a battery check is normally free conditional on you buying the new one from the testing firm.
