high beam and dipped beam are miss aligned

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have a headlight problem on my fabia estate Mk2 (2012).

Both dipped beams are correctly aligned and the right high beam is also correctly aligned  (relative to the dipped beam).  The motorised hight adjustment is working well on both sides and moves the  beams up and down reliably and equally.

However the left high beam is pointing far too much downwards.

I know where and how to align the whole light unit which moves high and dipped beam at the same time,  but is there a separate alignment for the high beam to bring it up ??

The sideways alignment of the high beam seems to be OK .

The left high beam bulb sits correctly in it's mounting and is identical to the right one.

When I take off the rubber cap from the back of the  high beam lamp I can see inside the lamp housing what might be an alignment feature but that ends in a small non descript pin with a type of small knurled end inside the motor compartment and no clear means of adjusting.

Does anybody have any idea what's going on here ?

What type of headlights are they ?

"normal" or projector ?

The headlamp setting is for low beam, the high beam then should be correct.

Have you tried a different bulb, does not take much distortion with heat to throw the beam pattern out a lot.

Happens more so with the influx of cheap chinese bulbs.

If you have separate full and dipped beam bulbs, the most common cause of full beam misalignment is an incorrectly inserted bulb. Try taking it out and putting it back in, ensuring that it's seated correctly. You should be able to see the alignment nubs if you look in from the front through the light lens.

If you have changed many car bulbs before you might not even need to take the bulb out to feel it's not in correctly. Hope this helps.

It's a projector headlight for the dipped beam and a separate bulb for the high beam

I've taken the bulb our and placed it back in the fitting and it locked in nice and smooth and it ended up pointing in exactly the same direction as before   ......

well if the bulb looks ok and your happy its in correctly.....then it has to be how the headlight is mounted in the vehicle, unless there is actual adjusters for the main beam, not sure if there is, cannot find any in the workshop manual.

Obviously if you adjust the headlight on it's mountings, you would then need to bring the dipped beam back into scope with the adjusters, or atleast check it on a beam setter.

PS have you swapped left for right bulbs just to check ?

If you have a separate main beam bulb then it could be a faulty bulb fitting   causing this,  try swapping from the other side and see if it's the same, rather strange as most MK2 fabia's have the single H7 bulb with the flap for dipped and main light, I have heard of this once before and 2 issues were thrown up 1st one was the owner had used an aftermarket LED bulb which had got to hot and warped/slightly melted the fitting in the holderarea and 2nd issue the headlight  casing had been removed due to an accident and metal work was not correctly put back and the dipped beam was adjusted to sut the out of line issue but you cannot adjust the main beam setting

This have a single bulb with two filaments.

No aftermarket installation.

I have not been able to find a wiring diagram for my model, but i suspect that it have a central light control module as i can not see any light relays behind the master light switch as some modules have, and that there may have been water damage (i happened during a severe snow and rain storm)

I decided to bite the bullet and my car go to the workshop next week.

No work was done before the problem happened. It happened during a severe snow storm and heavy rain.

A mechanical problem causing light selection to be basically reversed seems unlikely.
