Heated windscreen

Featured Replies

Does the heated front screen look any different to an unheated one?  I've seen various pictures of the Kodiaq some of which looked to have a slightly greenish metallic iridescent look to the screen which I'd assumed equated to it being the heated option.  Can anyone confirm or deny please?

Yes, the heated windscreen comes with an IR protective capacity. That`s why it looks greenish from certain angles.

Can't say I've noticed the greenish tint... but you certainly can't see any elements or anything in the glass (unlike my wife's '13 plate Ford Ka).

Only had to use it once so far, but it worked perfectly and is so much better than just using the blower.

This is an example which to my eyes shows the greenish metalic tinge.

Use some polaroid glasses :)

Green shade comes from a metalised layer on heating element. Serves as heater and IR emissions reducer.

They're quite easy to notice when you spot the difference in colour under certain light conditions, here are a few examples...

Thinking about it... my previous bear definitely had a green tinted windscreen. Wasn't heated though...

It's the orange that I notice, not so much the green.

All the glass contains a certain amount of tint, but the reflective film in the heated windscreen is different enough to make it easily visible to me, but only in certain lights.

Thanks for that crop of images Silver.  Some of those are very obviously different between the screen and the side windows.  Is there some actual marking/logo on the screen too (e.g. to inform a replacement glass fitter who may be challenged in identifying it otherwise)?

I haven't noticed any markings, at least not on my 2018 Scout.

When I was looking to buy and was considering a used purchase I had a hard time determining which had the feature fitted and which didn't, in the end it was the button that made it a little easier...
