Octavia III rear air vents not working

Featured Replies

So, it's a 2015 Octavia Wagon without climate control (just standard old-fashioned hvac control). I'm not getting any air from the rear seat air vents. The front vents all work fine. Settings don't seem to have any affect.

I've seen there is a way to reset the climate control models, is there a way to reset the standard system?

Any other ideas short of tearing the dash apart?

You don't have the centre arm rest vents then. Only under seat? Did they ever work. They may only activate with one setting e.g. maybe when feet vents selected?  Have you tried all options with fan at max to detect any air flow?

It does have the rear upper vents (the ones in the centre console/armrest), and they are the ones that are not working.  They definitely used to work, and we haven't changed the way we use the hvac.

I have tried max fan at various settings to see if there is any flow. I think I can feel a trickle, though it can be tough to be sure.

Temps are getting above 40 and the kids have commented that it gets warm in the back.

Does sound like a flap malfunction. Or a joint has popped off. Can you get a full vcds scan? That should report a flap problem.  I'm not sure there is a button sequence for non climate reset. You could try googling. But if you get the full vcds scan done there should be a basic settings function within hvac settings.

May have to take it to a VW specialist shop, then. Don't know anyone in Adelaide with VCDS. The only google results I get are for climate control models.

Or I may just live with it, as we're planning on replacing it with an Enyaq as soon as the car is available in Aus.

Thanks

Just went down to the garage and checked on my ordinary a/c equipped 1.4tsi.

Basically the rear central vents work when the front vents are emitting air.

Don't forget that the rear vents can be turned off by the adjacent knurled dial. Sorry for stating the obvious :)

No need to apologise for stating the obvious. Sometimes I realise the answer I needed was obvious.

I have tried opening and closing the vent with the knurled roller switch. It doesn't seem to make a difference to air flow. It is possible that the switch has become disconnected from the vent door and left it closed, but i think I can still feel the door moving.  Maybe if it is just the centre console I'll try taking it apart one day.

I have the same issue on the same car. Let me know how you solved it when you do please

Any news about above? I have excactly same issue… no air (just a very gently breeze) is blowing out rear vents, despite front are at the full speed.

Thank you!

Hi Friends,

I'm sure you are still looking for a solution to this! It's hard sometimes isn't it!

As for the issue to the rear vents not blowing strongly (or a small amount of air on high) there is a flap imbedded in the centre console. see image attached. The open/close dial stops working and thus the open setting fails and remains closed.

In order to rectify, get a flat blade and manually open the flap; have the air going so you can be aided by the airflow, and so you will know that it is open. It is VERY hard to see in there. Use the screwdriver to wedge from top to bottom. the flap will open downwards and then sit flat, parralell to the bottom of the vent.

message me if you need any more details. hope this helps you all!

If people are ham-fisted with the air flow control, this will break (easily) and not open the air flow through the central console and into the rear seats.
