Electrical Schematic Drawing

Featured Replies

Has anyone got a link for an electrical drawing please? I'm trying to figure out the maximum current I can draw from 12v sockets

If you are running with a 25amp fuse then it'll be around 300 watts, quite a bit -  I dare bet any sustained draw at full whack the feed will get quite warm ....?

The schematic wont tell you the maximum amperage, the fuse will tell you the blow rating (NOT the safe rating). For complete clarity, the cigarette lighter is made for 10A 120W continuous draw. Anymore than that and youll want to run an independent fused feed from the battery.

What is it you are trying to run?

Just sticking a bigger fuse in there is not a good idea! The fuse is there as a fail safe, not a safe limit. Plus a lot of the time the fuse will run 2 power sockets. (1 front, 1 rear) so it doesnt mean one alone can take the max rating.

Didn't suggest a bigger fuse, just pointed out that the standard fuse is 25amp...........thus, you can have 300watts.

Also, I'm sure each socket has its own fuse.....?

Use a voltage sensing relay 12v feed from the battery ,no need for signal wires one wire front to back just like a caravan wiring set up

I did just that on my MK1 Octavia, it had a split charge relay for the caravan socket but I also fitted a 2 pin connector so I could remove the caravan battery and charge it in the back of the car on journeys away from the caravan.

That one was powered from the rear cabin accessory socket, not the preferred way but it was a corner worth cutting, the fuse never blew, a car cigarette lighter takes a lot of current I used one to make a load tester for lead acid alarm batteries, 6ah being the biggest.

It would need to be a battery to battery charger. But how to route the cable?

Use something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Automatic-Voltage-Sense-20A-Split-Charging-Relay-Tow-Caravan-Towing-Electrics-/143639679949?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 and you can run the cable under the sill trims and up behind the glove box there is an accessory grommet located there in to the engine bay/scuttle
