Foggy Full LED Headlights

Featured Replies

Hey,

Last night at -3 celsius I walked past my parked car (parked on the street) and I noticed that both top DRL fixtures were all fogged up from the inside.

The bottom fixtures were fogged up around 10...15%.

I am writing this post to ask you if this is normal. I believe it is not but I want some opinions before going to the dealer.

As a side note, I was driving last night and used the windshield washers which also washed the headlights.

The view degraded almost instantly, it is possible for them to have fogged up from the washer fluid while driving?

I have a 2021 Kamiq, full LED headlights.

Thanks for any input guys.

I believe the light units are ventilated so fogging can happen. Here's a snippet from the car's manual.

Alright, thank you.

It just seems odd for them to fog up this much in my opinion.

A common thing with LED lights, my mates BMW lights fog up too.  When you think about it with Halogen bulbs the het produced clears by moisture, LED’s don’t get that warm.

Unlike old style bulbs which give off lots of heat, LEDs don’t waste energy by giving off light only.

Not really sure why LEDs need ventilation, but the only way you will clear it is to park in a warmish dry garage, or wait until warmer dryer weather in spring.
