Featured Replies

Have a new Edition with Colombus sat nev  I live beside new dual carriageway 8 years old and live in a new house 6 years old  The sat nav does not recognise either So I can't go to a desigination as it freezes when it reaches the dual carriageway

If I wish to go home it does not recognise the road I live on/

It does not have SD card so computer says it will update every month  No messages yet   I am in consulation with my Scoda dealer at present as to how to update the maps on line

Help is always appreciated

Hi Charles

This doesn't directly answer your question, but...  I had a bit of a play with the Skoda in-built Sat Nav when I got my Karoq, but have moved over to using 'Waze' on my mobile phone and connected to the car via Android Auto (it's also available in Apple Carplay).

I'm finding that Waze is very fast at updating navigation en-route, warns me of speed cameras, vehicle breakdowns and other traffic incidents. Another plus is that it uses hardly any mobile data at all, so no need to worry about data usage. I believe that Waze is owned by Google Maps.

You could install Waze and try it for a few days to see what you think.

Waze for Android Auto

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.waze&hl=en_GB&gl=US

Waze for Apple Carplay

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/waze-navigation-live-traffic/id323229106

(PS. I'm using the 'Kate - English UK' voice, which also includes the street names as well as number, eg 'A580, East Lancashire Road'.)

Cheers

PJ

Thanks for replying P-J

I am 79  and not too good with modern tech  O2 mobile is very poor with us  My contract with O2 only gives me 2Gb data

so I think that would not last long when using Waze in the car in the car   I have I phone with google maps which are excellent and could use Apple play

in the car if I had more data  Skoda dealer is investigating the out of date maps issue for my car and will report back asap  My previous VW cars had no difficulty with up to date maps

but then VW could not offer me a car same size as Karoq with all of the high spec.

If I remember I will report back on Skoda results  Thanks for interest

I'm hoping mine is going to update as on my car it places North Walsham Station (Norfolk) in the middle of Dorset. Theres is a second East Anglian station on the edge of Poole as well. I have plenty of data so I use Google Maps, but I have Waze as well if I feel like a change.

Hello Ro  I am waiting for a response from the service dept of Skoda my dealer on updating Colombus maps

I am confident they will be able to either update the maps in their workshop or supply me with detailed instructions

Will respond  Thanks for your interest

Model Year 20 cars and onwards are designed to update their maps online, and after some concerns, I am now happy that my MY20 is indeed doing that.

If you look on the MENU / Settings / System Information screen you will see the version number for the navigation database. My car updated itself to v 21.9 last month, and even shows a new road in Stafford that only opened last month.

If yours is a brand-new car, then I would expect the factory to have installed v 21.2 or later at the very least.

Because our cars do not have a plug-in SD memory card, we cannot update the maps using one of these. It has been reported that we can load the updated maps from the Skoda website onto a USB memory stick and then leave that plugged into the car until the maps have been updated but I had no success doing that myself. (It may depend on the software version in your car. When I tried it my car was using the 0270 software although my dealer has since updated it to 0276 to cure some problems I was having.) The system software version is also shown on the MENU / Settings / System Information screen.

Chris

Chris, Do you mean MY21?

Just checked mine. Version 21.11. The new versions may have new roads on but the errors don't seem to be corrected. Anyone any ideas how to report errors?

Just received info rom Skoda service dept  Check the car for notification of update

If update is available as shown on the car then follow instructions on

SKODA CONNECT in the car

See Skoda Connect help menu  then ON LINE SYSTEM UPDATE

Use Skoda Connect ACTIVATION OF SCODA CONNECT  in the car with ignition on

I have made notes from my computer and will try testing them tomorrow if I do it correctly and it works

Hi Charles. I can see from your other responses that you're hopefully making progress with the Skoda SatNav. I hope you get it sorted.

When I decided to give Waze / Google Maps on Android Auto a try I was also concerned about the amount of mobile data it might consume as I'm on a low-tariff O2 package like you. The good news is that it uses very little data. To give you an idea, I've been using Android Auto and Waze in the car for the past month and my data usage is less than 100Mb - that's less than 5% of a 2Gb allowance.

This website has more info on data usage - https://w3codemasters.in/how-much-data-does-android-auto-use-benefits-of-android-auto/

-----

How Much Data Does Android Auto Use?

Android Auto will consume some data because it draws in information from the home screen, such as the current temperature and proposed routing. And by some, we mean 0.01 megabytes. The applications you use for streaming music and navigation are where you’ll find the majority of your cell phone data consumption.

How much data does WAZE use per hour?

Google Maps consumes around 0.6MB of data each hour. On the other hand, Waze consumes just about 0.23MB.
