1.6l AEE, timing belt

Featured Replies

Hi!

I'm planing to change my timing belt and water pump (it's making noice) on my octavia -97 with the smal 1.6l AEE (75hp) engine.

It's been running for 100.000km now so it's time to change any way.

I know I have to loosen the engine to change the timingbelt, and this sould be the hardest part of the job I think.

Is there anyone who has any aditional tips of what colud be a problem with changing the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner?

What about engine mount bolts? I've heared that they should be replaced and not reused.

Any tips are welcomed!

Some one must have changed the timing belt and have some tips?!

The new Haynes Manual for the Octavia should have the information you need. The Felicia manual which covers the same engine has 5 pages of text with diagram and photos on how to do the work you plan. It also includes warnings which, if you ignore them, could result in major engine damage.

I guess you're right about that. Is there some one who has already bought the Haynes manual for the Octavia and can tell for sure that it covers the AEE (1.6l 75hp) engine?

I have noticed that it covers from -98 to -04 and my car is a -97.

I have also noticed that the manual should cover 2 different 1.6l engines, are they the 75hp and the 101hp engines or is there more 1.6l for the Octavia?

If it dosen't cover "my" engine I might be better of with the Felica or Polo manual.

If you still need help with this I've just done an AEE cambelt and water pump. Lowering the engine down is no problem, the only issue I had was prising the pump off th block... *sigh*

Pretty easy to do.

Renew the engine mounting bolts.

Yup. Thats why mine is still on axle stands with a jack holding the engine up... You'd think a VW dealer would have them in stock...
