Heated Windshield Interior Crack

Featured Replies

Hey,

I am once again posting here looking for some advice.

Today I noticed that the bottom left of the windshield has an interior crack. The windshield is heated.

It is around 3 cm long and I can feel the crack only from the inside.

My nail catches it from the inside, not outside.

What could cause it? I've never had a windshield cracked/scratched from the inside.

Could it be just a deep scratch or will it spread?

I don't have a picture now but I think I'll have one tomorrow.

Yes, a crack can spread.  But it might not for months, then suddenly grow.  It will all depend on stresses and thermal movement of the glass.

Without knowing details, might be possible to have it fixed (using special liquid bond that is invisible when set).   But might need replacement glass.

Wouldn't this be covered under warranty, especially it's on the inside?

From my understanding, stress cracks should be covered, especially if there is no impact mark at all.

As an update, I went to the dealership today and they are changing it on warranty as they believe it's been there since delivery, it just got bigger and more visible.

Hope this helps other people!
