Octavia Scout 4x4 2010 Estate ex emergency response car ...Engine management light issue

Featured Replies

Hello

I would welcome help please. My Octavia scout as in title subject.. is now used for very short journeys and The Engine Management Light is on constantly..Mot has expired ..and so cannot drive car a Long Distance, as I have read on chat forums ,to kinda Blow dpf clea etc I fear it's blocked....This may not be the case ... I guess my question is ...should I simply take to mot test station to have it Fail due to E.M.L. being on and to discover via their test emissions etc how bad the situation is ...?

Or can I switch EML Off via a process ..?

Can this dilemma be an expensive outcome ?

I live in Norfolk and have Zero knowledge of cars !

Reading through paperwork that came with the car when I bought it over a year ago ..it seems this Light was often On ..

Thanks for any help etc

Which tells us 2 things:-

  1. The EML is on
  2. There should be one or more relevant fault codes that you haven't stated. Have you even had them read?

If it's a diesel engine, it's possibly the turbo vane sticking, especially if it's only been used for short journeys. Happened to my 2007 2.0 Tdi a couple of years ago. EML came on and pwer dropped Turned it off and all good again for a few miles then back on and no power. New turbo replaced for £980 inc VAT and it goes like the clappers....

As in the previous post, a sticky vane control will give the symptoms described and be resettable by turning the ignition off and on. Often  the warning light does not come on.

You should get the failure codes read as it is equally likely to be the EGR valve clogged up with soot. You can do it yourself if you buy an ELM 327 reader that plugs into the diagnostic port, and link to a suitable app for Android or iOS. Choose a unit that connects via wifi or Bluetooth to suit your phone/laptop/computer etc.

Thank you to the 3 of you that have attempted to Help me :)

My lovely local old mechanic that works out of his front garden doing odd repairs services etc looked at Scout .

He got the DPF " cleaned " by getting a garage to clear the soot n Ash etc. Passed mot emissions etc once this was done .

Happy days I thought ..but no within 50 miles of driving it ..the EML was back on and Scout seems to chug  n rattlealong rather than purr .. popped back to mechanic and he put a diagnostic reader on and

P0299 turbo underboost came up as fault..

Would welcome a remedy please.

Thanks Kenny

Mr Muscle enema.

You can try some fuel additives. Best is to drive it at high revs for a long time to try and burn off the soot/crud from the turbo. Gently get it up to 3-4000 rpm and hold it there. Basically drive in only 2-3rd gear everywhere keeping revs high. Don’t try and accelerate hard as it will just go into limp mode. Usually it’s a turbo overboost for a clogged variable vane turbo. It’s worth a try and it doesn’t cost much.
