Skoda octavia 2008 tdi

Featured Replies

Hey, yesterday my octavia started acting up, when i tried to start it the sparkplug marking didnt show up(diesel) and when i turned the key it started for a 1-2sec and turned off so i thought it migh be immo. Later i tried again then it showed up and car started but then airbag light turned on, today i drove with it and after some time all the lights turned on and oil pressure warning game on aswell then all the lights turned off, it also resetted how much ive drove after reseting it myself and i think also about how much fuel it uses per 100km, then the lights turned on and off again and on and off again, does anyone know what might be the problem?

Suggest you check the battery is in good condition.

Yes, and? Just because the car starts doesn't mean that all the electronics are getting enough voltage.

No idea. You need a deep load test to check battery condition. I have no idea about the market in Estonia, but in the UK most vendors would do the test for free, provided they got the business if the battery needed replacing.

Before spending money I would charge the battery up and see it that helps.

So i bought a new battery, little lower ah than previous one, it was flat when i got it, i had to jump start it, after that it ran and drove without anyproblems, i was away for a week and came back to use the car, it did not start again, the glowplug light wont come on and i dont hear the fuel pump, so i recharged the battery and still same problem, im thinking maybe its bad battery i got from the store, basically it seems immo doesnt let the car start, i think its bad battery i got because when the car was runming it showed me on the mfd when car door was open even when the key wasnt in.

Check your ignition is fully turned off, snaps when removing key and interior light turns on.

I have a similar problem when the ignition is turned off, the key can be removed but the mechanism jams, does not snap to off and effectively the car is left powered on which will drain the battery over time.

Despite lubrication the ignition often does this so I am sure to twist/wiggle the key upon removal, the mechanism snaps to off and the interior light turns on as normal.

Be sure to reboot the car's electronics once you have a fully charged battery, that should clear up any weird faults from low voltage data corruption.

The damage was done to the battery when it was stored and allowed to go flat through self discharge.

Take it back and get a refund.

If you believe that you are sure of that then you should try to make your fortune as a fortune teller!

Anyway, so far ive tried 2 brand new batteries, mechanic said that vag shows problem with the dashboard , he got it checked out but it was fine, he says that vag cant connect to the car, it cant communicate with the car so it doesnt even help if u take the car to skoda service station, anyone has any idea what might be wrong?

It may be easiest to see an auto electrician who should be able to diagnose things.

Given your location and age of the car I suspect corrosion/breakage of wires and their connectors or at terminal devices and fractured solder joins in the instrument cluster.

If diagnostic tools are failing to connect the first things I would check are the ECU and instrument cluster.  The ECU and its connector(s) can corrode and both it and the instrument cluster are susceptible to solder joint issues from the use of lead-free solder, vibration and heat cycles.
