Scala 1.0 tsi,dsg 2020 model.

Featured Replies

My Scala went in for its first service today, has done 17K miles.

I was very surprised to be told that the front brake pads were down to 3mm,and would need changing, also front discs were lipped and should also be replaced.

On top of this, they told me that the rear pads were at 5mm,and together with the rear discs should probably be replaced in the next 3 or 4 months!

Is this normal for these to were out so quickly!?

Hi @sjb  my Scala also a 1.0 TSI (115 6G manual) just had it's second year service last week, also on 17k.

I actually replaced all my discs and pads in December to EBC Turbo grooved discs and greenstuff pads as they had a black friday deal on.

However my original discs and pads had very minimal wear and were/are in very good condition so I am very surprised to hear yours have worn as much as this.

I still have the original discs and pads of you would like any photos to see wear then by all means just ask.

I believe the scala has the dry function ? this could pre mature wear the pads and discs? Strange to change pads and disc on 17K :o  Maybe you are a hard breaker ?

@OmnikingAre you meaning the Twin Dry Clutch DSG?

Having a DQ200 dsg does not mean you need to be using the brake pedal more, you have an automated manual which actually works ok at slowing the car.

Sometimes the brake wear / supposed brake pad and disc wear is more to do with not using the brakes much other than to clean off the rust that is there after each time the car is parked.

As to measurements given at a Main Dealer Service that might be given as 80% worn when there is not even 20% of wear.

Then there is the advice to change brake pads that a customer gets, yet if they were to trade the car in and buy a car at the dealers their car would get prepped for resale with no new pads fitted.

No there seems  to be a function that the car will dry off the pads to be safer when raining. I believed it is fitted in all new cars (no idea from which year onward). Could be only active with wipers or other conditions.

There is a topic here mentioning it.

Yes it clears the water but does not apply brakes so the car is not braking or possibly aqua planing.

So really what a owner needs sometimes after a service of a car is a 2nd and honest opinion from those not up-selling in the way too many UK Dealerships do.

My 2 year old DSG Scala had it’s second 18k service and they said the brakes were all good for many more miles. I have now done over 21k and they look just fine with minimal signs of wear.  My last 3 Fabia’s all DSG with 30k+ miles we’re all sold on without ever having to change brake parts.

I didn't think I was hard on the brakes. But I guess I will know soon.

I am getting the front pads changed at the end of the month,so I will know the true extent of the wear.

So what was the true extent of the wear?

Do you guys have a yearly maintenance or 2 years?

My Octavia is on annual servicing due to low mileage each year - 6+ years, 24000 miles, still on original pads and discs.

ah yess thats not much indeed.
