Fabia mk 2 tailgate won't open

Featured Replies

Hi I'm new to this forum.

Skoda Fabia estaré 2008 TDI 1.9

Any suggestions to help me with the following would be greatly appreciated.

Tailgate won't open.

I know how to open it manually from the inside.

The fuse is ok.

I just replaced the complete lock mechanism with a new one from Skoda and it still won't open.

The switch appears to be ok, as when I Short circuit the wires going to the switch it still won't open.

WTF. !!!!

Sheared wiring where the lines come into the hatch from the car's body?

This sort of problem has been troubling quite a few Fabia/Polo/Ibiza for many years, even down to "trouble" inside a black plug<>socket within the hatch on some same age Ibizas - driving owners a bit mad especially after replacing the "obvious" parts.

Good luck, hopefully either my suggestion turns out to be correct or others will chip in with a solution.

Good call.

I just checked, and despite being stupidly thin wires they look fine.

Hello, did I post this in the wrong forum? Should I have put it in in the general technical issues forum for all Skodas?

Surely someone has experienced the same problem with the tailgate not opening, and has found a solution?

Or has everyone already got rid of their Fabia Mk2's because they can't find a solution to this very annoying problem?!

Just general thoughts from me, - do you know anyone with a full proper diagnostics scan tool, or get a multimeter out and do the old fashioned chasing down of broken wire(s) or connection(s) or poor quality connection(s) from a to e.

You know the new lock works but is it enough to have the tailgate open, have you also check mechanical side, rubber seal, tailgate, hinges, lock, lock catch, alignment.  That's me out of general thoughts.
