Car doors wont lock, the boot wont open and the car wont start ! ........but other than that its working like a dream ;)

Featured Replies

Unbelievable.........just went out to the car and noticed it was open/unlocked....weird i thought

Tried both sets of keys and neither worked in terms of being able to lock it

Checked the boot.....its locked but wont open

Sat in car and with keys next to me and it wont start or show any signs of life on the dashboard or the central console

Car was last used on Monday afternoon without any issues

Any ideas as to what might be the issue please ?

Skoda garage response was "no idea, sorry. can you bring it in for us to take a look ?"

errr, nope, it wont start !!!!!! 🤪

Forgot to say, the alarm went off on Tuesday whilst the vehicle was just parked on my drive (not sure why) which i turned off with the fob, but the car hasn't moved since

Sounds like a flat battery. If car is under 3 years old, phone Skoda Assist.

Ours did the same thing in late December. Skoda Assist (RAC) came and did a partial recharge of the 12 volt battery. In order to open the passenger door, the emergency key was used. (I suggest having a go with this some time as it's awkward, assuming Skoda Assist have been). I used my trickle charger to fully charge the battery using the correct charging points under the bonnet. It's a known problem and our dealer did a software update, although the 12 volt battery still disharges slightly every night, so I leave the main charger plugged in 'just in case'.

confirmed as a flat 12v battery but the question outstanding is what caused it to drain ?

i guess the battery is either on the way out (its a 21 plate so i hope not) or something drained it

i was planning to get it towed to Skoda as it wasn't driveable (its working fine now) to run diagnostics but past experience tells me that will be futile so i'll sit tight and wait for the next issue as at least i know the symptom now !

Is this a hybrid? Other owners have reported problem with the 12V battery not being charged properly on hybrid Octavias and a software update being needed at the delaer.

yep, absolutely...its a 21 plate octavia PHEV estate

The car was in the garage 3 times in January 2022 as the SOS system died numerous times and the sat nav too resulting in new head unit (i think) at the cost of £1200 to the dealership being needed

i assume it would've had its software updated to the latest and greatest at the same time too as typically, that's the approach when they cant get to the bottom of things....bang a load of software/firmware on and hope the issue goes away

the Skoda factory were logged in remotely to it also so i assume that they would've mandated that first of all

it didn't fix it hence, £1200 part required 😀

the car has been fine since hence, something else has drained it or the battery is naff

its working again now so i'll wait for the next issue and if it happens again, its defo going in

is it just me that doesn't understand why on a car that has a big battery, why if the 12v is getting low on power, why it doesn't take some juice from the big battery, i mean, the 12v battery dies and renders the car dead, whereas the hybrid battery dies, you just run on unleaded...............or am i missing something ?

question for anyone with a similar Octavia mk IV...........

when your car is locked, does the little green light in headlining / centre, by the sunglass holder and SOS system light, does it remain lit ?

looks like my SOS system has died AGAIN whilst taking the car on a test drive, but now i'm home and the car is parked and locked, the little green light next to it is still illuminated

can anyone confirm please ?

Yup, I can confirm my green light remains illuminated when the car is locked.
