The Octy vRS advert

Featured Replies

Was in the cinima the other day and saw the advert for the Octy vRS. I thought it was really pants.

You know the one I mean with the woman who jumps on the roof of the train, then climbs through the window to tell the guy on the train something he forgot.

Then the slogan 'Practical and Exciting, you don't see that very often.'

Just wondering what you all thought of it, and if you were not already devoted skoda owners, would you be tempted to get one over the competition?

Skoda's ad agency seems to specialise in the slightly bizarre adverts though - like the trouser press one for the Furby vRS.

I quite like the train advert, although it is a bit head-scratching the first time you see it.

Who knows? I'll buy whatever seems the best value and satisfies my criteria (quick and nimble, decent boot, not too flash, comfortable and not too expensive to run) in 2 years or so.

A Focus ST Station Wagon would be good .... Although a non-3-series rear wheel drive would be nice.

ps. assuming that's you on the photo, your head looks as if it's a long way from your body! :)

Couldn't put it better myself!

I saw it at the cinema last night, I quite liked it. :D

I then heard people around me talking about it saying "Oooh that looks quite nice, it's a Skoda?" Then the reply was "I think so, I heard that they're made by VW now!"

You should see the Dutch Skoda ads. The one for the Fabia features a mob at at a store who's about to open up for a blue cross sale. A woman in a Fabia arrives, the mob looks at her and her car and then when the store finally opens, they let the Fabia driver in first. They then follow her until she's picked up a handbag she likes after which the mob goes for the same item... The slogan is "follow the Skoda driver", as in "whatever they do or have, it must be good as they drive a Skoda"

The latest one is for the Octavia vRS, which has a police traffic car stopping the driver and then leaning into the car as if he want to discuss an aledged offence. However, he goes to explain that it is his sister in law's birthday coming up soon and that he was thinking of buying her an espresso machine... and the Skoda driver looked to him like the sort of chap who would know what to buy.

All in all... daft

I think Skoda are way off the mark with their ads, they are pretty forgettable and a bit bland...

Ad's are supposedly designed to appeal to the 'Target Audience'. i.e. they figure out who are the kind of people who would buy that product & then make an ad to appeal to that type of person.

Never really seems to work with me. I love my Skoda but think the ad's are dull. I used to love that Audi ad from a few years back where the city type says after test-driving an A4: "Not my style" but I've never wanted an Audi. I am a Mac fanatic but Apples ad's have just got to be the worst ever; cringe-making! :o

I can't really think of anything that I've bought & like where I also like the ad!

I don't think I'm sort of person who is greatly influenced by an advert. I'll buy something (not just cars) on reputation and the 'deal' rather than an 'image' or 'lifestyle'.

e.g.despite the fact that I'm into 'the outdoors' in a fairly big way, I've never been hindered by having a 'warm'/'hot' estate/hatch

-A large 4x4 off-road truck doesn't help in many situations!

I think Skoda would have been better off with a more informative advert. For those not in the know the advert tells you nothing about the car.

Ads aren't there to sell the product, they're just there to make you aware of them. If they get your interest, you'll look into the product further...and it'll either sell itself, or you'll come into contact with a salesperson who will "close the deal".

In part I think this is why we've seen a reduction in the amount of information given in adverts on TV, as almost all of them now include a URL - so people can look up details on t'interweb, which is a lot cheaper than TV advert time.

So, IMHO, the real key to a successful advert is not "has it made you buy the product?" but rather "has it made you investigate the product further?".
