I am trying to change the steering lock on a LHD 2011 1,2 TDI because ignition keys (both) sometimes won't turn to crank position. I've removed air bag and steering wheel, but I can't see how to remove the airbag clock spring and column stork switches. I've unclipped 4 clips holding clock spring, but there's a plastic prong (screw driver point in photo) which I can't see how to release. Can anyone please advise how to proceed?

Thank you nige8021 for the photos. Unfortunately they are too blurred for me to read the text. It's the 2nd photo which seems relevant to my problem. 

I have now removed the lock barrel and sprayed copiously the steering lock with Facom 'Degrippant Serrures' (lock releasing and lubricant fluid) which seems to have solved the problem. So unless I can find how to remove the clock lock to get access to remove the steering lock, I'll resort to re-assembling with the existing steering lock, and add an external momentary switch to crank the motor should the problem recur.

Thanks again nige8021, that image is clear. I've re-assembled the original parts with my added emergency crank switch. So I can now crank the engine with the key or,  if the key won't turn to the crank position, with my emergency switch. New problem is that the air bag warning light stays on. Maybe I've damaged the clock spring/restoring ring. When I get the courage, I'll take it all apart again and try to find the positioning pin shown as 5 in your photo.

 

For anyone with the same key turning problem, I'd suggest removing the ignition barrel and spraying WD40 directly into the steering lock. This is far easier than the mess I've got into.

If you switched the ignition ON with the airbag disconnected ? it will have latched a fault code in the airbag ecu and you'll need diagnostic kit to reset the system

Yes I'm guilty of doing that. My cheap and cheerful Chinese OBDII scanner (Creader 319) shows no faults, so I guess it'll have to go to VW garage.
