Fabia 2014 1.2 - knocking noise coming from Air Con/Heater area

Featured Replies

Hi,

Fabia 2014, 1.2L

Recently I have noticed a knocking noise coming from the air con/heater area of my Fabia. This starts when I put on the air con. It goes off after about a minute or two.

Any idea what this could be ?

thanks

This noise appears to start when the ignition key is turned. I don't now think it is related to the air con/heater mechanism as the banging noise is heard even though the fan is not on. Could this be related to the fuel pump ?

Fuel pump is in the tank, beneath the rear seats, so unlikely. Remove the rear seat bases and see if the noise gets louder?

Aircon doesn't normally work unless cabin fan is on? Is yours the version with an LCD screen, or not?

Thanks Pete - my car doesn't have an LCD screen.

Try to narrow down the source of the noise by getting an assistant to turn the ignition on/off while you stick your head to listen adjacent to various corners of the cabin left/right/front/back.

It could be one of the flap motors hunting due to contamination on the positional feedback potentiometer.

Known in some cars as the grandfather clock effect!

Thanks rum4mo.

The clicking noise comes on at startup and goes off. Then immediately I press the Air Con circulation button it starts clicking again, so I think it is related to the flaps.
