Registering an Irish car for use in NI...

Featured Replies

Any of my fellow Irish members know anything about buying a car in the Republic and registering it for use in the North? Does it have to go through MOT before it can be used? Any other things that need to be done or is it a case of re-registering and getting UK plates? Thanks in advance for any help  ...

I think you probably have to pay some sort of import Tax/ duty as well. I would phone the Inland Revenue and DVLNI and ask their advice.

I thought this was variable depending on the age and mileage of the vehicle....

The car I'm thinking about buying is 10 years old with 60K on the clock, I've had a look on the DVLNI website but the info on there seems to relate more to registering brand new vehicles...

as far as i know all you have to pay is the registration fee...about sevnty pounds i think,t he vat has already been paid when it was new:)

kit

should not be any duty as it is an eu import, plus vat paid in ireland so should just be registartion fee and mot.
