Looking for a new audio system for my Mk2 Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just purchased a Fabia vRS Estate and I'm looking to replace the aftermarket head unit that is currently installed.

Currently, an Xtrons device is installed. A shocking piece of kit.

I'm looking for a good quality unit that will sync with my phone, contacts etc, provide excellent DAB reception and bluetooth streaming from my Samsung phone (I use Tidal).

Maybe Satnav, if that's a possibilty.

This Xtrons has an aerial on the passenger side of the windscreen. Terrible reception. I'd like this relocating back to the roof.

Any advice on what to look at and also looking for a trusted seller and installer in the North West.

Sound quality on this Xtrons is also awful. Don't know if that is down to the unit itself or also due to the quality of the Fabia speakers.

My old Ford Focus was leagues ahead in audio quality and useabilty.

If the standard speakers in the the Fabia are bobbins, then I'd be happy to upragde these also.

Sound quality and functionality are important, so I'm looking at higher tier kit. I don't want to cut corners.

Advice welcome.

Thanks.

Can't help with a head unit, but fronts should be 16.5cm-17cm. If it's like a Mk1 Fabia you'll need spacers too as the OEM spacers are structurally integral to the old speakers.

I personally found that these Pioneer speakers were excellent in the front of my Fabia, could shoogle the seats as well. I don't know the dimensions of the rear speakers of a Mk2 Fabia, but in the Mk1 they're 10cm, and I used these Pioneer ones too. Only bought either because they were cheap. The rears don't do much for bass and overall power, but nice filler.

Hope this helps. :)

Might be worth seeing if you can fit an RCD330 head unit, that's the conclusion I came to when doing the same research for my Octavia.   They were standard VW fit in some Chinese models and can be picked up for around £200 shipped from china if memory serves.  Depending which one you get, you can have CarPlay and/or Android Auto and I think Bluetooth audio as well, although unfortunately no DAB.  You can also find them with Skoda boot screen and green accents for a little bit more money.

I don't know how much better the sound quality will be compared to OEM or your Xtrons unit, or whether it will be better at all.  The standard fit speakers shouldn't be shocking, but upgrading them is pretty cheap.  There's always the option of an amp as well if the HU output isn't amazing.

I actually have a mate who might be trying to get rid of an RCD330 out of his Polo GTI, although I have no idea which part number it is.  If you decide to go this route then I can put you in touch.
