Rear Disc scored / grooves

Featured Replies

Has anyone had any issues with their discs getting scored? I noticed it after only doing 5k mentioned on the first service, they didn't seem interested, obviously getting worse it's only done 10k, it's in for its 2nd service again today and mentioned it again. Will wait and see what they say.

Scored discs are quite common, usually happens when a sharp stone gets caught and jams into the pad.  Only the very hard stones do this, softer ones will disintegrate rather than cut grooves in steel

Not normally a problem unless get very uneven surface of the discs, or the grooves are deep.  Or get scratching sounds

More an annoyance caused by poor quality road surfaces and lack of road sweeping

Possibly, but strange just both rears are the same and the front discs are fine. Just picked it up and apparently discs need to be changed after 9k or so for £360.

@LongWait Maybe post a picture.   Dealership Service Desk staff like upselling & workshop staff assist with what they write on the service sheet.

Why have you been advised to replace these scored discs, have the pads been wrecked?

'Apparently' is the issue.

Have you been given an estimation of how worn the pads are, or the discs are?

Dealerships are often advising replacing scored discs but if you were to trade your car in to them for another then likely the next owner would receive the car with the discs on it now.
