Can someone tell me if this is the part I need to fit a single din stereo in my 55 plate fabia vrs please

I wouldn't go for one like that. I'd either get the top trim piece made by Skoda, if you can still get it. Otherwise, Halfords sell one which I have and it seems alright to me.

It looks like this, but the other way up:
