Yeti 1.8t

Featured Replies

Hi looking to get a mk1 Yeti 1.8t.

Trying to avoid high milers are there any known or problems or issues to look out for?

Any help much Appreciated :)

Welcome.   High miles really is not the possible issue.   A high mile one might be fine or had any issue resolved.  Maybe a rebuilt engine or a replaced one.

True but some owners may not have been on top of things like the haldex 4x4 etc  Id prefer one under 100k

Hopefully you can find one.

Good ones are what people often keep and ones not so good are what they get rid of.

Maybe a wanted advert on the likes of Briskoda will get you one from an enthusiast.

Even low mileage you will need to see invoices to see what was done at Services and not just go with a FSH.

So Haldex having an oil change and filter clean @ 3 year /30,000 mile or less intervals.

Good to know the service intervals something to look at

This will give some idea of the recommendation or guidelines from Skoda.

Sadly with the haldex some dealerships think an oil change is enough and not proper servicing and maintenance of the system.

You have other stuff to consider when looking at a car with Skoda Main Dealer Servicing.

Was it just oil & filter servicing, minor / interim & major or Oil & Inspection & Extended Scope or were thing done like the Brake Fluid change, Spark Plugs, AC serviced etc.

Yes, Although the 1.8 TSI is said to be a great engine to drive there are too many expensive issues with VERY high oil consumption that the only really viable solution is a new or reconditioned engine, both of which are going to probably cost more than the car is worth.

..given the well published issues with this engine it is probably best to avoid unless evidence of a replacement engine has been fitted? Although when the engines are OK they are great, (had on in an Octavia)!

Yeah I've read abut the 1.8tsi potential issues hence looking for a lower mileage or one that has already been replaced / refurbished. Seems to be similar to the Ej25 engine lottery that was prevalent when I was a Subaru owner. You tend to only see the few hundred horror stories on the forums and internet and people ignore the millions that run fine so i think similarly id be willing to take the risk to get the version of the car that has the performance I want as I do not want a diesel car in 2022 .

You can only lead a horse to water.

Only VW / Skoda say the issue is overblown.  Do not listen to forums.   You are looking to buy one car so looking for the diamond not a lemon.

Success story.

The real world where it is not only people with issues that come to forums, but sadly for VW Group enough do.

Ok well thanks then I guess ill not be getting into a Skoda any time soon then. shame the yeti really seemed to be the right car for me

@D_A_N  Do you need a 4x4, is it a manual or DSG that you are after?

Is there a max budget on the Yeti you get ?

A 1.8TSI might be perfect if you can get a perfect one and you maybe can from an enthusiast that wants more money than a Dealer / Trader is offereing.

Or they are being offered as a trade in.

The thing is if there are ones that seem a great deal or bargain now you need to know why they are not snapped up already.

It seems that these engines though fitted to 100's of thousands of vehicles are apparently guaranteed to implode. So i guess ill have to look elsewhere the 1.4 doesn't have the guts for me and I don't want diesel  I'm looking to spend around 6k + trade in so call it maybe 7.5k ideally 80k ish miles I think would be about right for that money (cant stretch to newer model prices start at 10k).  I'd want Manual yeah there is this one that I think is suspiciously cheap being sold by a dealer with bad reviews has red flag all over it.

That can be the issue with a low mileage car that is 11 years old.

A higher miles cared for one can have many new parts and be well looked after and loved.

You mention the 1.4 petrol does not have the guts. I thought it had the same 150bhp and 250N/m torque of the current 1.5 petrol ran by VAG. My 2014 brochure has the 1.8 petrol as having 160bhp and 250N/m torque. Have I got this correct?

In the Mk 1 you only get 2wd 120bhp and 150nm torques totally gutless in a car this size even Revo tune / awesome gti remap packages only get them upto 140 bhp. only in the MK2 does the power start at 150

..the 150 hp 1.4 seems fine to me?....virtually the same "feel" as my old 2.0 ltre diesel. Although I think the earlier 1.4's are 122hp. I had one of those in an Octavia, and again I found it a really great engine and economical to boot!...

Maybe I suppose it depends on what your used to I've not owned many car's with less than 200bhp generally weighing less than the yeti too so the 1.8t seemed like a good option close to that but a lot more sensible for carting the new addition to the family and dog about hehe

But as it seems VAG decided to make an engine out of hand grenades looks like I'm on the search again.

Bump for @Maxwell65 just incase you missed this thread.
