Can't open backseat doors!

Featured Replies

Really strange but passengers sitting in the backseat can't open their doors and get out?! (the child lock feature is not activated).

Also, sometimes when driving there is a lock/unlock noise from the doors. Has anyone had any similar problem? Have only had the car for 2 months, it's a -99 1.6LX.

On most modern cars there is a way you can 'lock' the doors so they can't be open from the inside. We do this when transporting prisoners to custody at work.

(From memory) open the door and above the locking mechanism I believe there is a small round plastic insert. I think it's orange on the Octy. Put the key in the slot and turn to the next position.

Hopefully that will sort it.:)

Hm, that is what I refered to as the "child lock feature" which I already have checked and it's not activated.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be that simple. I'm guessing that there is something wrong with the central looking mechanism...?

Today something new happened as well, I couldn't open the luggage door for a few hours!

More tips?!

Have a search here for similar reports. It might be a faulty component (door lock?) or a bad electrical connection which is affecting the central locking system. The worst case scenario is that you will need a new central control unit for convenience system which could be of the order of £250 with fitting.

Its not the anti-hijack feature is it, that locks all doors at a certain speed (15km/hr I think). Or something similar to this causing the malfunction.

They then unlock when the key is removed.

If it is this, two pulls on the rear door handles should open them anyway, even if the engine is still running.

Needs the fault codes reading off, that will help.

Tried to open back doors when the key was removed and it still doesn't work :(. (I've always though been able to open them from the outside)

Since both back doors show the same fault, I suspect the central control unit for convenience system and not the lock itself.

How can I check the CCU? The only way is to read the fault codes?

How do one strip the inner cover of the back doors in order to check the looking mechanism?

Completely different question! I would like to mount speakers in the rear (it's a station wagon). Where should I place them?

Thanks for your help!

The fault codes can only be read by using diagnostic equipment. VAG-COM is one DIY method if you have a suitable interface lead and PC/laptop.
